Ordered a new hinge. Problem solved. I have never heard of a different edge distance for 470 versus 426. The slight twist in the trim tab will stay for now. Thanks for the input.

Trim Tab & hinge issues

I drilled my hinge to the elevator and trim tab. I put a piece of angle across the elevator trailing edge and the trim tab trailing edge. The trim tab is even with the elevator trailing edge for the first five inches and then it slowly drops, by the other end of the trim tab (inside edge) there is a...

Wings!

My wings have left Van's. Do not have a delivery date yet. I am wondering about getting them off the Fed Ex truck? I am planning on having two appliance dollies for getting them up the driveway and into the garage. Can two guys lift them off the truck and get them to the ground? As you know they are...

Thanks for the input guys! Lance thanks for the offer but I could build them for $100. I love the idea of building steel wing stands but I am thinking if I did build it from wood I could reuse the wood for the wing cradle. The steel will run me $100 and not sure what I would use it for when I was do...

Congrats on finishing phase one Brian and Happy Birthday! I had to go back to Chad's build log to check the date of his first flight. I could not believe it was nine months from first flight to finishing phase one. That seems like a long time. I realize it was a pretty brutal winter. I can only drea...

Wing stands & drill bushing?

Looking for input on wing stands. I am thinking of building the steel ones. rectangular tubing with angle welded to the bottom to bolt to the floor. Wondering about what height to set the support for the spar? I have heard chest height is good. I thought I would seek input from those that have been ...

Thansk for the input guys! I was freaking a little bit when I noticed it but the more I thought about it the more I realized it probably was not a big deal. I was mainly thinking about the drag aspect of it more than the appearance. I am moving on and will come back and try to work it with the hand ...

alignment of root rib & trim spar

Last night I riveted the root and tip ribs on the left elevator and then the bottom of the trim spar to the skin and I noticed when I finished the riveting that the trim spar and root rib do not line up very well. This is on the bottom of the left elevator between the end of the root rib and the tri...

I don't think aviation is any more expensive than any other hobby I would have to agree with Brian. I have several neighbors that have brand new trucks (40+ thousand) and new ranger boats which are easily 40 -50 thousand. It seems that maybe you do not want to give up some of your lifestyle to get ...

Thanks for the info. I had to drill the hole out to a #34(.111) and I used a MK 319 BS rivet which is a structural rivet and the flush head fits in a 3/32 dimple. Bonus, I had a few in the shop. Problem solved. Moving on Thanks

best way to fix?

I drilled two holes on the bottom of my left elevator (skin to spar) for flush rivets thinking I could get to them with the hand squeezer. I could have had I not already riveted the counterbalance arm on. DOH! I am looking for a good fix. I can not get in there to buck them and do not want to drill ...

I meant the inside edge of the right elevator Chad. I am worried about the edge of the skin curling up? The wedge is like $5, I am afraid if I don't replace it it will bug me.
