AN fittings -- sealant

Ed, I also noticed there is something white in the union of the AN fittings for your vent lines. Are you using some sort of sealant (it looks like teflon plumbing tape) on these? The taper on these surface is the sealing surface, and there should not be any sealant used on these types of fittings. Rob

Not property tax...

If TN is like IL, it isn't property tax...it is use tax (aka. sales tax for out of state purchases where tax hadn't previously been paid)

Got 'em both, Cappy J..

Just as Chad said, CJ, I've got the B&C alternator and the external reg -- in over a year of flying, never experienced a single glitch with either. Wiring the reg is no big deal, and the built in "crowbar" overvoltage protection is a nice benefit of it. I don't think you can go wrong with these -- f...

Chad is right on...

Chad is right on...the Van's harness sucks out loud for anything other than their pre-punched panel and all it encompasses. I omitted some things from the FWF kit, but forgot to eliminate the harness. I ended up cutting some of the wires out of it to use while waiting for bigger B&C orders to arrive...

I probably won't make it out to the hangar until Friday, and I'll grab some pictures then. I do think a motorcycle lift would work well as a single lift under the main spar carrythrough, but it was nice with the individual lifts that I could make small adjustments in the height to make sure the plan...

wing jacks

I built a set of wing jacks for my -7 out of 2x4's, 2x6's, and two bottle jacks from Lowe's. They worked VERY well and I had no issues at all jacking the plane up to align the fairings and wheel pants. I think I found a picture of a set that a guy built on the "other" site. I can take a picture of m...

Their ok

Chad,

I used airframe grounds on my landing lights without any problems at all. Just avoid them with "noisy" devices and you'll be ok. What you are describing is perfectly fine for local grounds!

Better be ready to fly it...

I didn't do any high speed taxi tests in my -7, and I am glad I didn't. With my engine/prop combo, the plane is only on the ground for a VERY short time during takeoff roll. My take is that if it was an untested design, then there is probably some value in doing a high speed taxi test. However, thes...

Well, I hope it is more eventful than the last "doomsday" scare we had -- Y2K. Ended up being a whole lot of nothing on the actual day. We did a lot of work to prep old programs to continue to function, but we didn't see the massive armageddon-like outages with robots taking over the world like nost...

no help

Mine works great -- no issues at all whatsoever when the AP is engaged. I have a TT ADI Pilot II that is coupled to a Garmin 420W. Are you using local grounds or all home runs in your wiring? Have you tried to switch out the elevator servo for another one? Or, even switching the elevator and aileron...

Doesn't matter for the light itself (definitely want to get those strobe wires hooked up right). The light housing doesn't touch the airframe at all (it is sitting in a fiberglass hole), so i'd pick the blue one as ground :)

You're absolutely correct Rob. I would NEVER use the Enigma as a sole means of navigation on an approach. It is a fantastic supplement tho... I have no aspirations to fly my RV IFR anyway, but it's neat that it has the capability, tho not legal to use it for an actual WAAS approach. 8) I got...

I don't think one could "technically" fly a legal GPS approach with the Enigma (it isn't a TSO'd unit, is it?). Just messing with approaches on my 420W shows that a true, documented GPS approach is much, much more than a runway intercept with glideslope, which is what the GLS function of the device ...

Thanks guys! First flight will be coming very soon. I am planning on contacting the DAR again tonight to get the inspection on the calendar. I have all of the paperwork done, except for the weight and balance, and that should happen soon. It is time to make this thing happen!
