Crankshaft seal

Many moon's ago I installed a split seal on a Franklin 165hp with the split at the 10 or 2 o'clock position. Didn't leak all the while I owned the aircraft. Later installed a one piece seal on a lycoming using this piece of advice from an AME (A&P in Canada). He said to soak it in warm oil for a whi...

engine mounts

Found the engine mount dwg on Van's site like you said. Also found a file on the Aircraft Spruce site that explains how to inspect the mount before install.

thanks for the direction.

engine mounts

Is there any info out there on the correct way to install the engine mount vibration isolators (rubber mounts). I have a set of Barry mounts with part numbers on one side only. The same side has ridges on it. The other side has no marking or ridges just the mfg name. The install is for an IO-320-B1A...

How far back will the fiberglass work go? Probably on the same subject area, I've read about not drilling the corner or last hole in the Plexiglass. Is this in the same area? :|

Just fitting the frame for the eventual Big Cut! Read somewhere about a "dog ear" that some folks are cutting off instead of trying to set in the fiberglass lay up. I believe its in the glareshield sheet C602. Does anyone have pics of that issue?

well it's more than 3 years since I requested something on propellers and finally made a choice to go with a fixed pitch Catto prop. I'm told they work very well on these airframes with this engine install.

mahlon,

are the plugs for the IO 320 B1A still available? I guess the alternative is drilling the 1/8" hole.

plug in the back

i've been told to drill the small plug and tap it with a 1/8" npt tap to allow putting in a plug if we ever do decide to run a c/s prop. any body heard of this process?

I alodined most of the small parts and even the "J" channels under the body skins. I did not alodine any parts that were riveted together because, I'm told, you cannot tell for sure if the protected surfaces have been neutralized in between the assembled parts. Before you get carried away with tryin...

oil plug in the crank

Haven't torn down the engine just yet (IO-320) but was talking to someone this morning and he mentioned if using a fixed pitch prop (which I intend to) I'll have to remove the aft crankshaft plug. He mentioned this is to allow the oil pressure to go somewhere if not using it for the Prop governer. A...

Anyone out there have an alternate way of installing the upper cowl on a
-6 or -7? seen one install that eliminated the upper piano hinge and replace it with Dzus / Cam-Loc fasteners.

propeller choice?

Anyone with experience with CS or Fixed Pitch like to give me their 2 cents worth? It's getting time to choose. I will have an IO-320 160HP and will probably go with e-mag electronic ignition. What are the numbers like for both? Is the extra money worth 2KTS. I plan on x-country now and then. Short ...
