Black Otter 2017

It's that time of year again to plan on indulging in the finest meats and seafoods WI has to offer at the Black Otter. Does Wednesday night work best for everyone? Let me get a headcount and I will arrange transportation. Pics from last year! What a blast!! http://rvplane.com/showthumb.php?picname=D...

Re: Interior/seat choices

Hi Joe, I went the cheap route and used Van's foam and got them locally covered in fabric. The Van's foam has a lot to be desired - it definitely isn't the most comfortable option, and my back always looks forward to getting out of the plane after a few hour trip. I tried the Oregon Aero seats at Su...

Re: My buddy got a drone...

It was cold, rainy and windy today, so what better to do than get my Remote Pilot's license. Started at 10:30am, met with my CFI at 1:30, temporary certificate in my hands by 2:30pm! Couldn't of been easier.

Sun 'n Fun 2017 Trip Write-up - Day 5

It's rare I get to make a 700 mile cross country and have ZERO weather concerns - today was the day however! WeatherMeister.com painted a beautiful picture of our flight up north. Calm surface winds. No clouds. Practically zero winds aloft. While a tailwind would of been appreciated, it's was otherw...

Sun 'n Fun 2017 Trip Write-up - Day 4

There was definitely no sleeping in this morning. The crack of thunder woke everyone up well before 6am on Thursday. Here's a screenshot of what WeatherMeister.com said was coming for us. http://www.rvplane.com/showthumb/DSCN5838.JPG The morning sky at sunrise was not what we were used to. http://ww...

Sun 'n Fun 2017 Trip Write-up - Day 3

Today started with another amazing sunrise. We also picked up a new guest at our campsite. Peters friend, James, drove in last night from the Miami area to join us for a day of Sun and Fun! You can see him hydrating in Peter's tent. http://www.rvplane.com/showthumb/DSCN5802.JPG A couple of hot air b...

Sun 'n Fun 2017 Trip Write-up - Day 2

We woke up on Tuesday to a beautiful morning sunrise. http://www.rvplane.com/showthumb/DSCN5742.JPG Not too many airplanes in HBC - 15 airplanes. http://www.rvplane.com/showthumb/DSCN5743.JPG The SNF media hospitality was second to none. Sun 'n Fun 2017 Trip Write-up

The last 3 days have been all work and no play for me finishing up the annual conditional inspection and installing the "red cube" fuel flow sensor. The rush was all worth it for a trip to Lakeland, FL for 2017 Sun 'n Fun! Last year when we departed for SNF, the temps were much lower - 28 degrees OA...

Re: My wingman lost his engine last night

Craig and I got to the bottom of why his engine quit (as to respect to him and his wish for privacy, I will not reveal the reason here, but PM me and I will let you know as a learning lesson - I know if I was in Craig's shoes, my best outcome would be where he ended up!). Anyways, the FAA required h...

My wingman lost his engine last night

If you follow my site ( http://www.rvplane.com ), you'll know I have helped my friend Craig ferry his Cessna 162 Skycatcher back and forth to Lancaster (KLNS) many times while they tried to fix some avionics bugs in his Garmin panel. Today was much like many of our other trips - clear skies, low win...

Re: This is why I come here!

Mike, I had great luck with the IXYS 45V 2X59A schottky diodes. What I like about these diodes is there are actually two independent diodes on each chip, it has screw terminals, and it doesn't need to be electrically isolated. http://www.rvplane.com/showthumb.php?picname=IMG_9641.JPG They've worked ...

Enquiring nerds want to know if you also upgrading to TLS 1.2? SSL 3.0 is so yesterday's technology. :D Bob, Nerd talk! Now we're talking. SSL 2.0 and 3.0 are both disabled on the server - only TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 are enabled. RivetBangers.com has an A- rating for security from SSL Labs. Since it'...

Re: Worn baffle

Vlad-

Impressive "badge of honor"! I don't see why you couldn't replace the worn piece with some 6061-T6. I would just make a lap-joint and use countersunk 3/32" rivets. You might want to double-check with A&P Mitch for a second much more qualified opinion.

Re: This is why I come here!

Bob, the thread is long in the tooth, Mike's post was made last June, Bruce just resurected it. I would bet Gathering Cinco is in June as well this year. I MIGHT have my panel back together by then. :bang: Mike - Correct, this thread referred to last years RV Fly-in. I don't have an exact date for ...
