Hi Lorin, Smitty, & group... I've been sick this holiday (feeling better today) but I didn't let that slow me down.... I've finally, completely, and totally FINISHED MY WINGS  Here's a pic - note the half-crazed look from bucking too many rivets and painting pushrod tubes. http://img89.imagesha...

Re: looks good Bret!

Besides, how much could a measly replacement pushrod and end bearings cost anyway? It's not the cost of the replacement parts - I've already done a lot of that :( ..... It's the thought of the crating charge to send me those long pushrod tubes after I cut them too short :o Thanks for the info on th...

looks good Bret!

Wow Bret - that looks good. I'm at the exact same spot, except I didn't yet make the big pushrods. I heard that sometimes they come up short if you make them per plans so I decided to hold off for now. Did you make yours to the length in the plans? I found this riveting guide " somewhere (I forget w...

The following weekend I did one each day, by myself. Ya ever play twister with an aluminum mistress?? Stretching, reaching, skins pushing on your arms. Pretty sore after too. . Chappy - how did you get the bucking bar to the bottom rivets on the inboard ribs (the ones that are close together)?? My ...

Hi Smitty - I am just about where you are. I put in the vans conduit... it was fine, but a pain to pull. You should proseal it to each rib so it won't twist/wear. After it was in, I tied a cotton ball to some strings and pulled them through to use as wire pulls later. I made small holes in the condu...

Re: Flying with dog

Dave, My wife shows goldens. We currently have 13. My plane is at CID in one of the corporate hangers. Until recently, four of us shared it. Now that one of the RV-8's is sold, there are only three but hopefully the space will be occupied soon. Anytime you would like to see the plane, just let me k...

it's a horse race

Cool Lorin - you and I are at exactly the same spot. I just finished with the wiring / autopilot / pitot tube and am preparing the bottom skins for riveting... We're having a rough week though (lost the avatar dog to cancer monday  ) so I'll probably fall behind for a bit.

Good luck!

I remember those first boxes, just about 1.5 years ago.... It's kind of like your 1st solo, you won't ever forget! As you go the boxes get bigger but they are just as fun to open.... My next big box comes in about 2 months! :)

Maybe the problem isn't the wrong flap tube...

If you want a better flap pushrod, you should've bought a 9! Comes with a hex pushrod!! 8)

(I think it's even threaded...)

Hi Tom - I gotta ask!

What constitutes an army? We have 2 goldens and also live in IA (Cedar Rapids). Do you breed them? The one in the video looks great!

BTW - where do you keep your RV - I'd love to see it sometime?

cherokee 140 costs

hahaha it sure did. This airplane has cost me a lot of money :) In a year of ownership, I've had oil cooler hoses and mag check ADs come up. I've had to replace a vacuum pump and all the side glass. I'm about to have my fourth oil change done on it since I bought it! Yeah, I fly a lot. It's costly....

moving along...

It's been awhile since I've posted... I'm spending my free time in the garage instead of on the PC! My lovely wife & I finished riveting the top skins, and I got the aileron / flap brackets and gap seals done: http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/410/dcp4437uj4.th.jpg Now I'm about halfway through ail...

BNW

Hi JohnR - you're idea about staying home & riveting hits close to home. I've got my top skins hanging and ready to rivet, but I haven't yet found someone who wants to spend their day helping to rivet my wings! You're lucky to have Luke!

Hi CJ - I plan to be at BNW, but I'm flying there in a C172 and the big screen might be hard to fit.... Seriously though, it's in a large roll right now but if you are going to be there I could try to fold in instead and bring it with me.... Let me know. Be careful with that generator thing. The rig...

my bug solution

Hi Chad - I had the same problem you did last year. For about $80 I bought a big garage door screen. It velcos to the inside of the door frame and seals really well. You can open and close the door with it there (sort of...) or you can roll it up. It keeps the bugs out, but it's a big pain to deal w...
