Thanks
I appreciate your response. I wish that I had the choice of not installing the step. I am assembling a quick-build kit and it already had the step hole cut out through the side of the fuselage skin. I have the step in place and riveted. Do you know of any type of welding that would allow me to use t...

Van's Says.....
I spoke with tech support at Van's. They informed me that this is a very common problem. In fact their factory demo aircraft has a rudder cable which contacts the step support tube. They said if it really bothers me then I should wrap the tube with some type of low friction tape. Just thought that e...

Rudder Cable Interference
I have the boarding step fitted and clecoed in place on my RV8-A and the left rudder cable is going to make contact with the tubular section of the step (the piece that attaches to the baggage floor rib). I know that several builders have experienced this problem. Is it necessary to put any type of ...

Rivets
I see a couple of blind rivets in your photo. What type and size are those as I may wish to use a few on my step.

Thanks for the information. I am going to break out my trusty Ball Peen Hammer tomorrow and have a good whack at that step.

RV8-A Boarding Step
I am having difficutly getting the flange of my boarding step to match the curve in my fuselage skins. Also it appears that the tube of the step which mounts to the rear baggage floor rib is going to slightly interfere with my rudder cable. Has anyone had similar problems. Any thoughts or comments o...

Quickbuild Instructions
Does the RV8 Quickbuild kit come with an additional instruction suppliment? I am wondering how you determine what work has been completed on the quickbuild kit, or do you have to dig through the normal plans set and firgure out for youself what has been completed and what remains to be built? Please...

Quick Build Wing Wiring
I will be receiving my quickbuild wings soon. Just wondering if anyone on the boards could offer their experience with wiring their quickbuild wings for nav/strobes/fuel gauges etc. I have heard of using a conduit inside of the wing ribs to run the wires and was wondering if this is a possibility wi...

Shipping Costs for Quick Build Kit
Can anyone give me a rough estimate as to the shipping costs for a quick build RV8 kit? Mine will be shipped from the factory to Virginia Beach, VA. Is it cheaper to have it shipped to a trucking terminal and then pick it up from there, or is it better to have it shipped directly to my hanger? Any i...

Rivet Direction/Shop head vs. Factory head ?
Does it make a difference which side you put the factory head of the rivet on when riveting. I am begining to rivet the rear spar of my vertical stab and wasn't certain if it matters. Obviously I know the proper direction for a hole that is countersunk, but I am wondering about the universal head ri...

I painted a Cessna 120 using these products in 1981. The paint job has performed very well over the years. I still own the plane. When you're doing this job, it seems like no matter how clean you get it it is never clean enough, but the paint has stayed on and has not peeled anywhere. The top coat ...

I finally was able to use the Dupont products this weeked. I wish to report favorable results. My first attempt at using this was to prepare my Vertical Stab parts. I used the acid etch first then after rinsing with water I soaked the ribs in a shallow pan filled with the conversion coating. After r...

Hmm, are you saying that you think its the drill's fault or your fault? Im a bit unclear on that. If its the drill's then I'd be interested in knowing why. I will have to get one in the future and want to know what I should stay away from :) -- John I believe the drill is the culprit. The head of t...

My First Mistake.
Unfortunately I had to order two HS-405 replacement ribs for my RV8 this morning. :( Here is how it happened. I was progressing nicely with drilling my horizontal stab. It came time to mate the front flange of the HS-405 to the HS-702 and HS-810-1 and HS-814-1. This is to be done using the holes pre...

Here is the scoop
After a bit of research I found the answer to my own question, so I thought that I would share the information with everyone on the board. The 225S and 226S are Dupont's version of Alodine. This process involves first acid etching the Aluminum with the 225S and then Alodine it with the 226S. The 226...

Dupont 225S and Dupont 226S
Has anyone had experience using the Dupont 225S Cleaner and Dupont 226S Conversion Coating? From my understaning this is Dupont's version of Alodine. Do I use the cleaner and rinse it off and then coat with the 226 S and rinse it off. If you have used it, how did it perform for you? Any help will be...

Re: "Breaking" edges of HS-609PP...
The first step in building the emp kit is to put a 1/32" radius on the edges of the rear HS spar doublers. I've not had any problems deburring edges of parts using a deburring tool and emory cloth, but this is a much greater challenge. Does anyone have any specific techniques and tool suggestions t...
