Spike and CG,
You probably have this covered but I thought I'd throw this out to you.
I help run a couple of boards that use the same software RBers does.
On one of the boards we were getting slammed by 20-40 bots per day.
About the only thing that I've done that has any meaningful effect was to start a ban list of email addresses using widcards. By doing that we dropped down to 3-4 per week. As they pop up I add them to the list.
*@gmail
*@*.ru
are two of the best catch cans .

I was seriously considering banning mail.ru, however -- I and several of our active members have gmail accounts, so that would sort of suck for us.

I have customized the board so that there are non standard form parameters used for sign up. That has reduced the number greatly. Still have some work to go obviously.

another thing I saw that might work was a time limit for submitting the registration forms. If the form is filled out under 10 seconds or so chances are it's a spambot and denys the form.
They really are a pain to deal with.
gmail is the second highest spambotter I now have. .ru and .de were the tops before that
