Improvements

Post by captain_john »

Spike,

One thing I have seen on another forum is a hot button for "Today's Posts". You know, it parses a query for the last 24 hours or something.

Can we do that here? When I am not logged on and at a borrowed machine I like to easily check up on things and that works for me.

Also, when a page opens, can it automatically scroll to the first unread reply? That would really save me the tremendous hassle of scrolling down. You know how TIRING that can get!?!

BTW, GREAT JOB with the site! I know you already know it, but it is good to hear now and again. I know Pat likes it too. He put in a plug on his home page blatently saying so!

I think I should be able to setup somethign where you can query for the last 24 hours worth of stuff. Alternatively you could sign up for the digests that would allow you to get updates at a schedule that you choose.

As for going to the first unread post of the thread, this particular bbs software does not suppor that though I believe that they are working on that for a future release.

Thanx for the kind words John :)

I don't see how that would help, and you are welcome!

As requested. Log out of the board and then check the space where the "View new posts" link is when you are logged in. You can search for all posts in the last 24, 48, & 72 hours. This will let you take a glance at activity when you arent logged in as John requested.

Let me know if you have any problems with it.

Cool! I like it!

That will help me out when I am checking in real quick on a borrowed PC!

Great job!

Why doesn't it work when logged in, though?

Because it automatically shows you everything you've missed since you last logged in?

(Ie: the link purposely changes to a 'view all since last login' search when you're logged in because it automatically keeps track of everything you've read; example: if you login now and then 12 hours from now, a 24-hour search would bring up posts you've already read.)

Eggzactlee!

I can see at a glance if there is anything new without having to log in.

...for instance, when I want to show someone a post that I know is active I won't need to log in if I forget what forum it is in, if I know it is current.

Are we missing each other John or are you on board? Or, come to think of it, am I on board? :headscratch:

You want to be able to see whats happened lately when you are away and not logged in. You can now do that with the hour searches.

I thought we now had all cases covered. What case am I missing that you see? Or are we just saying the same thing with different words?
