Debuted by the fine people at Sonex...
I did not see it, but heard about it. My friend, and Sonex builder, Jim Cunningham took this photo.
Interesting!
Not RV, but did anyone catch this at Oshkosh???
I breezed past it, and it was on my list of things to look at in depth, but I didn't make it back around! There's more than a few things that I wanted to look at more closely, but 6 days at the show just isn't enough!
It reminds me of some of the bigger electric RC installations. Giant brushless motors with insanely expensive LiPo batteries running them.
Anyone know what sort of batteries it takes to run this beast?

Here's a link to the press release if anyone is interested in reading about it.

The motor was made by an RC motor company. They have a little work to do on their electric plane. As it stands now they have to charge each cell one at a time and I think it can only run for about 25 minutes or so. Ehh... it's a start.

The specs I read in the Airventure paper were 200 AMP at 270V. Wow, don't think I would want to fly it in the rain

Is that the standard propeller rotation direction for a Sonex? I'm kinda curious why they wouldn't make it turn the "normal" direction.
I think I'd wire up a polarity switch of some sort so I could get reverse thrust for decents, landings and backing into the hangar
