Comm range?

Post by hydroguy2 »

During my taxi test, it appeared my radio didn't send or receive from the far end of our runway. Once I got closer thing was loud and clear. Also a few months ago I talked with a passing plane from my garage. I'm thinking my antenna cable connection has been damaged or was just poor to begin with.

is it possible to have a bad connection causing limited range?

The runway completely flat? If obstacles are in the way, you could have limited capability at times. I sometimes can't call or hear Ground when behind certain buildings or if the airplane is pointed in a certain direction...I've never had an issue in the air tho.

Thanks Chad, now that you mention it....I was facing away, flaps down, belly mount bent whip, out of line of sight in a low spot. Other radio was a handheld with a low battery.

One more thing to check
