Garmin GHA 15 - radar altimeter

Post by A2022 »

you have to admit, this would be a nice add on...

KNOW YOUR HEIGHT ABOVE TERRAIN WITH RADAR PRECISION
The GHA 15 height advisor offers above-ground-level (AGL) altitude reference at a cost-effective price. It brings radar-based accuracy, aural callouts and visual height indication1 to pilots of experimental and light sport aircraft equipped with our G3X Touch™ displays.

$2000 = Affordable?
The GHA 15 will be available in August 2023 for an expected street price of $1,995. For additional information, visit http://garmin.com/GHA15.
I don't quite see the need for a radar altimeter for what we do. This would easily be calculated using a WAAS GPS and the USGS 1 meter Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) I would think. Maybe a little processor intensive, but nothing a low-end GPU couldn't handle the computation for.

but for 2K you get a precise radar altimeter. do you know how much these cost for a commercial airliner, 20X. now it's available for cheap for experimental. could be good for the forthcoming experimental auto land? enough to get you down safely. just need that servo on the throttle and a solenoid for full rich.
