Ramona RV Fly In

Post by bruceh »

Had a great day of flying with friends yesterday. Weather was perfect. I got to the airport around 8:30am (early for me) and preflighted the airplane. At 9am my friend and fellow builder (RV-7A) Roee Kalinsky arrived and we did a nice flight out east to the desert. First time for him in an RV-9A. We landed at Borrego Springs and filled up with cheap fuel, then headed back to Ramona for the RV Fly In and BBQ. There were dozens of RV's and other planes that showed up. Photos here.

I met up with another long time friend that has yet to see my finished and flying RV-9A. After looking around at all of the airplanes on the ramp and eating a nice lunch at the BBQ, we pulled the plane out and took off for another flight. Again, we headed east over the desert. We flew over Agua Caliente then up Carrizo Gorge to see the largest curved train trestle made of wood. From there we headed north over Ocotillo Wells. My friend mentioned that Coachella was going on, so we flew up to Thermal Airport and did a few circles of the concert area. Lots of banner towing aircraft down low, and lots of jet traffic on the ramp at Thermal. After we landed and took off from Thermal, we headed for the cooler temps of Big Bear Lake. Another landing and takeoff and from there we headed south to French Valley, then we headed over to his in-law's house in Rancho Penasquitos and back to Ramona.
