My buddy got a drone...

Post by Vlad »

My buddy Igor just received his remote pilot certificate. Still wet we flew to some lake to exercise the privilege

I also just got my Remote Pilot certificate. I did get a drone for Christmas, but it is more toy than anything. Still lots of fun!

If you have your PPL, getting the Remote Pilot certificate is super easy. Take the online course (takes about an hour), pass a test and then get an appointment at the FSDO or have a CFI look over your paperwork.

It was cold, rainy and windy today, so what better to do than get my Remote Pilot's license. Started at 10:30am, met with my CFI at 1:30, temporary certificate in my hands by 2:30pm! Couldn't of been easier.

So if I drag out my RC stuff (mostly 1/4-1/3 scale fixed wing), do I need to go through this process?

Aircraft: .55 lb to 55 lb must be registered with the FAA
Pilot: Fly for fun or education anything up to 55 lb with no certification.

I did my Commercial Drone Certificate last month, since I had to go to the FSDO anyway to renew my CFI. Fairly painless, you never know when someone will call with a job to film real estate (or sunbathers at the nude beach )!
