Hi Guys
When you fit your EGT & CHT gauges, wether steam or 'glass panel' do they need calibrating, I'm a bit naive on how these devices actually work.

EGT & CHT gauges
CJ, thank you, but what I guess I really want to know is how they work, can I connect any make of intrument (I like round dials) so if I go for other than the Vans dials, like UMA do they just get connected and away you go - also my fellow builder with his build is going all glass, again do the 'wires' just get connected to the Dymon

How a temp sender usually works is like this...
They all have 3 wires. One is a positive and another is a negative. The magic is in the third wire. It sends a variable voltage (based upon the max potential applied to the first two wires) back to the instrument to indicate a value.
As far as interchangeability and what sender works with which instrument, I don't know.
Each instrument will either specify or provide it's own sender model.
Does this help?

EGT & CHT gauges
CJ - I do believe we are getting there - the 'standard' VANs EGT & CHT gauges are to be used with Electronics International probes and wires, so I just make sure I know what make of probes I need for my particular make of gauges, I'm now presuming !!! most are compatable with EI probes etc
Thank for all the help
John
