Tiedown hole

Post by tshort »

What size are you guys making the hole in the LE skin for the tiedown rings?
I'd like to drill it to the size of the threaded portion of the ring, but there is a gap between the skin and the tiedown block. I was thinking of epoxying in some washers to fill this space so that the tiedown can "bottom out" without deforming the skin.
OTOH, I guess I could drill a bigger hole so that the ring bottoms out on the block ... not sure I like that idea, though...

Thanks
Thomas

Don't just go slammin' it out to full size now! You will need your dremel side cutter to coax the hole into center before you go with the larger bit!!!

Mine are 3/8" in diameter.

My plane with the ring itself are to cut a groove in the threads, toss in some weld and grind it round again. The balled up thread area will keep the ring from screwing in deeper. No muss, no fuss.

Easy, easy, Japaneesy!

Good idea!
Mine are already centered so no coaxing needed!
