Wing Cradle Plans or Dimensions

Post by Terry B »

Does anyone have plans or dimensions for a wing cradle? I know I have seen pictures of some (possibly in the background) and I need some to transport the wings of my Aeronca 7AC. I want to build some that will also hold a set of RV wings so I was curious as to what worked for y'all. I have a general idea of how to construct them and was looking at a length of about 8 ft. I just would like to learn from y'alls experience as to what worked well for you. BTW, I do plan on putting them on wheels (I have the casters for it already).

Thanks and keep the rivet guns banging.

Terry B.

Pixs or drawings would be nice ... 8)

I found a article and instructions on a wing cradle by Tony Bingelis (EAA Builders web site). Looks like it would work fine. Only question is, the plans for the one suggested calls for a total length of about 5 ft and a width of 3 ft.

Do you think this is adequate as far as size?

Terr, my -7 cradle is 8 feet long by 4 feet wide. I am sure mine could have been 3 feet wide, but I wanted the stability for when the wings are trucked and I have the room in the garage sooooo...

If I were you, I would make it about 75-80% as longs as the wings.

Thanks guys, got the wood to construct it. Plan on picking up the plane this weekend. Or at least the first load, depending on how I can pack it safely on a trailer. I can always count on y'all to put their 2cp in and I appriciate it.

Cheers,

Don't know if it helps, but...

I built it 3' wide for stability and I wouldn't change a thing. It also allowed me to do this (top picture)...

Have fun!!!
