pop rivets

Post by CalKid »

Can pop rivets be used with dimpled holes? Also, what is the difference if any between the pop rivets provided in the kits and so called "structural pop rivets" if there is such a thing?

Thanks

Cal,

There are several types of blind rivets that can be used in dimpled holes. Many are in the kit from Van's. They are countersunk just like solid rivets are.

The only rivets that I know of that are considered "structural" are Cherry Max rivets, and they are very expensive.

the "pop" rivets usually dont retain their shaft. this leaves you with a hollow rivet. the ones that are "structural" are cherry lock, cherry max the difference is one can be set with a cheap rivet gun the others require expensive (400$ +) tools. also you have to select the one for the thickness being riveted or the lock wont set properly. there is also the cherry q rivets, much cheaper than than the max/lock ones but much stronger than most pops because the shaft is retained.. some are monel, stainless, aluminum and so on. best refference is the aircraft spruce catalog. it breaks it down into simple terms. or the 43-13 or the airframe mechanics book.
good luck
william....don't let it beat you down, you are stronger than you think.
