More about plate nuts ....

Post by Spike »

Im looking for a standard or something that will tell me that appropriate size holes to drill for the bolt that interfaces with the platenut. Figuring the size of rivet holes is ok, but I cant seem to find anything concerning the screws themselves.

nutplate drill size

Post by Reheat »

Spike,
I noticed on my QB that some holes were sized to just accomodate the screw or bolt that will be inserted into the nutplate. ALSO some were drilled over size to allow for some slight leeway I assume for "fitting" purposes.

Personally, I generally use a #19 drill for #8 platenuts. If the part to be attached to the platenutted piece is say a side panel that needs to lay nice and flat, I may oversize the hole in that piece to accomodate for any small variances during the drilling to avoid buckling.

Spike, Try this web site for MIL Spec info on everything (http://stinet.dtic.mil/str/dodiss4_fields.html). Type in nut plate and look around. Hope this helps. Don.
