Resistive senders with flop tubes

Post by cjensen »

I'm having trouble figuring out how the resistive senders get installed in the second bay in my flop tube tank. I see the little drawing that is provided, but is there more info somewhere that I am missing? It gets installed in the rear baffle in the second bay, but where in relation to top/bottom and between the ribs? Anybody have pics or a good reference? Does the float wire get bent 90 degrees?

Thanks for the help in advance!

I didn't really look too deeply into this method but the way I understand it is you can cut the hole in the baffle very arbitrarily.

The bending of the float rod is the critical component to an accurate read.

Sorry, this will be a bit :offtopic: but it's close ...

The big plans (DWG 16A, RV7,RV8) show the float "arm" (the wire) with an aproximate dimension of 3" on each side of a 90 degree bend.

I found another drawing of the float arms on a small sheet (8.5 x 11) labeled, oddly enough, "WING FLOAT WIRESS" dated 1/5/95. This plan page has references to the RV3,4,6,8,9 but not the RV7. Examination of this page show that the float arm needs to be adjusted to allow the float to swing to within 1/8" or less of the skin at both the top and bottom end of it's travel.

I kinda missed that second plan page with the 1/8" dimension as I was bending the arm for my tank. Turns out, I adjusted it to swing all the way to contacting with the skins (0 clearance) ... I guess it's ok.

BTW, mine's standard pick-ups (no flop tube) and resistive (float) senders.

Back to your questions ... I can't see anything in the plans for more precise placement of the hole in the tank baffle for your floppy tank. I concure with CJ that the bending and adjusting of the float arm is the critical bit of the whole setup. I think the 90 degree bend allows for adjustment to the arm.

I've decided to wait

Chad,

I've decided the easiest thing for me to do is wait and see how you do it. Once you have yours done and post some nice photos then I will know how to proceed.

Actually I'm not quite there yet but getting closer. In looking at the plans I have been like you, and haven't seen any real positioning measurements. :headscratch: I also checked several builders sites and don't see any info on this. :?

Thanks John... I hope to be done with 'em over the weekend, so you should have some pics by next week to see what to do, or what NOT to do...
