Quality of Quick Build Kits

Post by Michael Smith »

In another thread, someone asked a question about a scratch in the spar web of their quick build wing kit. As I recall, one of the replies mentioned having a similar problem. Has anyone else had quality problems with the quick build kits? Do they have a reputation one way or another, within the RV community?

I think generally, they are very good. I don't have one, so I can't speak from first hand experience, but two friends of mine locally have built QB's, and the quality was outstanding! The Philipinos know how to drive a rivet! I don't think it's contained to QB's. There can be small problems with SB's as well. I had a small nick/scratch in one of my spars that was easily cleaned up.

The quality has been very good with the QB I have. The only thing I didn't care for was that someone took a scotch bright to a small section of the fuse. and dulled the metal.

spar scratch

One of my spars was scratched, actually gouged would be more appropriate. I told Van's about it and the assured me that quality control was such that if it had been a problem it would have been rejected. I took them at their word and built on.

Thanks for the information. It sounds like I can count on good quality with a quick-build kit.
