How much proseal?

Post by tshort »

I've been putting off the tanks as long as I can - not for any real reason, just haven't had good blocks of time to get them done. Basically the entire wing kit is ready to be riveted - all skins drilled, deburred, dimpled; the skeletons are deburred / countersunk / dimpled, etc.

What I'm wondering is, how much proseal do I mix up to get started (i.e. for the tank stiffeners)? I know Van's says a golfball size amount, but how much did you guys weigh out?

Chad - did you use prefilled syringes? If so, were they the ones from Van's and how did that go?

Thanks
Thomas

I would mix 20, 30 and 40 grams at a time.

It took me about 25 - 30 grams per rib.

I used about the same amount per rib as CJ. You may be different depending on how thick or thin you go. I was mixing about 50-60g per session. Once you have it figured out you can kind of eyeball the baffle lenghts compared to the rib outer lengths to figure out how much you will need for them.

I did my entire tanks with 6oz cartidges and a sealant gun, and a few "dab kits". I think I used 6 cartridges and 3 dab kits. If you are referring to these-

as the prefilled syringes, then yes that's what I used. I did not use the quart kit pictured above, and the little 1oz size is what we call "dab kits" here at work. Vans call that syringe 3.5oz and the dab kit 1oz, but after the hardener is mixed in, it's more like 6oz and 2.5oz. That's how we label them here. I found the cartridges/syringes to work great, and it's all pre-measured, so you just mix it and work.
