Best place to cut?

Post by cjensen »

I need to shorten the aft arm of my flap weldment (silver) so it is the same length as the electric weldment.

Where would the best place be to cut this? I am going to cut it, and then take it to a welding shop to get it welded properly. I'll be hacking about an inch and a half or so out of this.

Should I just cut it right in the middle? Fore? Aft? Help!! :? :?

I would ask the guy doing the welding where he can get the strongest welded joint and how he would prefer it to be cut. There is probably a way that would be best for them - they might even cut it for you...

i would think he could grind our the weld at the base, where the tube goes into the 90deg joint, cut off the excess at the end, and weld it back together the same way. this would yeild a MUCH stronger tube, than a cut and splice in the middle anywhere! don't you love my limited aircraft lingo.

Well, that's just what he did! The welds look great, and it's all re-powdercoated in a BEAUTIFUL BRIGHT RED! 8)

Chad, I have a friend who is planning on starting an RV in the next year or so. He really wants manual flaps so I am watching ot see how they work out for you. He thinks he wants a 9 but I am trying to get him to go with a 7.

Well, my first challenge started today...the center tunnel cover between the seats is for electric flaps, and the cover that goes over the weldment. I didn't realize that last night when I made all the funky angle cuts in the supports.

I have a free set that I won't be using if someone doesn't want to make them...

Anyway, I started fabricating my own tunnel cover tonight. I'll post some pics of the beginning of it later tonight or tomorrow, but I'm gonna remake the cover I did today. I just found some cracks where I made some bends. Kinda sucks, 'cuz this was somewhat complex piece to bend.
