Do I need a heater assembly doubler?

Post by RVNewsletter »

I bought what I guess is one of the last EPM Heater boxes (I hear they've gone out of business). Question: Since it bolts to the firewall, do I need to make a doubler for the cabin side of the firewall.

Somewhere along the line, I thought I recalled the advice that whenever you hang anything off the firewall, you need a doubler.

I didn't either... The SS EPM model is really thin sheet and when I bolted it to the firewall (with red RTV) it became really solid.

Maybe it's a bigger unit. I have a single-hole model that I bought from Avery. It comes with no doubler, nor any instructions for a doubler. I put it on yesterday. I made a doubler, then decided that since it's pretty close to the firewall recess -- which is reinforced -- I wouldn't need it.
