RV 7A main landing gear hole

Post by gsimatos »

On the main gear legs, the brake/backing plate collar is secured to the axel with a bolt that goes thru the axel. I don't so far see any info in the drawing which tells you where to locate this hole. It is a pretty big whole, I would like to get it right the first time. Thanks G

The hole isn't drilled from the factory on your gear legs?

Mmmm...call Van's first to make sure they sent you gear legs that inadvertently didn't get drilled. If so, they should swap them for you. If not, yep, I'd have a machine shop drill them...

Hi Chad Thanks I have talked to several RV builders here in the area and they all seem to remember the axel ends of the gear legs arriving with the holes already drilled. The email is already off to Van's and will follow up with a phone call tomorrow morning. Wanted to get the little honey on it legs (wheels) so I could do some firewall stuff in preparation to hang the engine. Oh well another little wrinkle. I will let ya know what Vans has to say. Thanks for you help. Gary

Yipes. That is definitely something I'd try to get a machine shop to do. I wouldn't have the stomach to even think about trying.
