AOA/Pitot

Post by cbkillion »

Since I've been waiting for my wings to ship :(, I've had a lot of time to think about other parts of the build, particularly the shiny expensive parts that go near the front. :)

Now my question: sacrilege and blasphemy aside, will a Dynon AOA/Pitot combo probe work with another EFIS vendor, say MGL, or do they only work with Dynon products?

Brett,

The pitot pressure portion of the Dynon pitot tube will work with any EFIS to give you airspeed. However, the AoA pressure port will only work with Dynon EFIS's.

I use the Dynon heated pitot tube with my GRT EFIS just fine. I just plugged off the AoA port inside the wing. The GRT EFIS has a AoA that is derived from flight data, so no external sensors are needed like Dynon or AFS need.

Thanks Mike!

Does anyone know what probe people with MGLs use for the built in AOA?

You've seen the one I have...it's from Kelly Meiste who sells a kit for around $200. It comes with a gauge, but you don't need to use it if you plan to just use an MGL system. I have mine "T'd" behind the panel to go to the gauge and the Enigma.

His email is "Kelly Meiste" <kellymeiste@jcwifi.com>

Shoot him an email, tell him I sent ya...
