F 705 bulkhead

Post by Joe Parish »

I started on the 705 bulkhead. First it says to trim the ends of 705B center section bar as shown on DWG 38. I looked at that and it says to trim the outboard edges of 605C & 705B. So I thought I would wait to trim those parts. I cut the F 705B to length, next I clamped the 705B, 605C bar doublers and the F 705 H spacers to the F 705A rear spar attach bulkhead. I drilled the parts and realized the length call outs for the F 605C bar doubler. The outboard edge to the first bend in the 605C is 2 inches and 3 3/4 to the second bend and 12 1/2 inches over all. Mine measures 2 1/4" to the first bend and 4" to the second bend. If I reorder new 605C bar doublers and drill them the only thing that will change will be that the bends in the 605C will shift 1/4 inch to the outboard edge. The 705B and the 605C edges will be even with each other and each will need to be trimmed as shown on the upper right corner of DWG 38. The distance from the ends of the 705B & 605C to the 705H spacer will not change, but the spacer will be right up to the first bend. I did notice it was off the bend a little when I was clamping everything up, that should of been enough to clue me in to stop and investigate. Trying to figure out if I am missing something that will come back and bite me later. I am not opposed to ordering new parts but thought I would try to think it thru and figure out if it is necessary. Hope this make some sense. Any thoughts appreciated.

This is DWG 38 upper right corner referring to trimming the edge of the 705B & 605C.

The 2" & 3 3/4" measurements are 2 1/4" & 4" on my part.

Ok Thanks Spike.

I talked to Scott at Vans and he could see no reason to replace the F605C bar doublers. I could not either but wanted other opinions. I am not sure if I explained it very well in my original post? I am moving on. Thanks

Joe, Just logged in and I will be honest. I really didn't see anything wrong with pressing on either.

Keep up the rivetbanging!

See you at OSH!
