Tire size

Post by Joe Parish »

Do the 7 and 9 A models nose wheel the same size as the mains? Thinking of doing slightly bigger tires. Thinking 380 x 150 x 5, they fit under vans pressure recovery wheel pants with a little modification. Not sure about doing the nose wheel and not sure if it is the same size as the mains? Thanks

Joe, nose wheel tire is smaller then mains on RV9. Only RV12 has the same size see below.

Joe, no matter which size tire you go with, be sure to check out the nosewheel modification done by Anti-Splat Aero. This 5-minute video clip tells it all.

I had this done on mine and I'm extremely pleased with the results. It's superior to the stock wheel bearings and the method by which they work. Check it out. :) For more info on the mod, prices, etc., it's all on their website here:

disclaimer: I don't work for them, there's nothing in this for me. I don't have a dog in the fight. I'm just a very happy customer. :)

Thanks for the link Bruce. Looks like it would be a good Mod. I will consider that when I get my finish kit. Really not sure about putting the bigger wheels on just yet? I may do the mains, I have read of several 4 owners have done it and they could really tell the difference. I have read it gives you quite a bit larger surface area on the ground.

Bruce did you do both the mains and the nose wheel bearings or just the nose wheel? If I decide to, I would probably do all of them. Cuts down on maintenance.

Joe, for now I just did the nose wheel. I may do the mains later on. I already had my mains together when I learned about this, and at the time he was only doing the nose wheels. At least the mains have a solid axle going all the way through them and they're a better design. It's very tempting to consider just sending them all in.
