Squeezing AN470 rivets ...

Post by Spike »

So I just set 4 AND470 rivets with my hand squeezer and have a question. I noticed after fully setting the rivets that the squeezer set left a small ring in the aluminum around the manufactured head of the rivet. Obviously I did use a cupped set to set the rivet. Pictures are below. Are you guys finding that this is normal of a cupped set ?

Not with mine. Are you sure you are not using the -5 (next rivet size up) cup? If not maybe some sets are better than others.

Darn, your right. I looked closer and its 1/8th set. I was squeezing 3/32 rivets. Thanx for the wake up call. Duh, sometimes I wonder about myself. :headscratch:

I bought a cheezy squeezer and the thing always clubbed the rivets and put smilies on the factory heads as well as the metal. What are you using for a squeezer? I bought an ATS and use it strictly for dimpling now. For squeezing, I use my pneumatic.

Im using the Avery squeezer with the 3" yoke. Im pretty sure its not the squeezer as it looks pretty solid. As far as the air squeezer.... well.... all I can say is between that and the workshop you must be loaded buddy.
