How to paint multi color?

Post by pequeajim »

I want to paint a two color scheme on my aircraft.

My question is do people paint the whole aircraft white and then paint the bottom half the darker color, or do they paint the white top part, and then mask it off and paint the bottom?

Well you can do it either way. If you want heavy you paint a solid base. If you want lighter then you do a lot of masking off, or use an HVLP and less masking.

A local builder here is painting an 8A. He is using a really light (almost white) colored primer. He has had excellent results shooting the white top coat, and then overshooting his color. Since the primer and the top coat are both white, the end result is that his non white colors keep the same shade as if he had masked and not shot the whole thing with the white top coat. Sheww, run on sentence. Sorry about that.
