Polishing rather than painting

Hi all
My '8 creeps ever closer to completion.
My co builder was messing around the other night and started to polish the outboard section of a wing. Boy did it come up nice!
Tempted to polish the whole thing now to save a fortune on painting.
Would it need some sort of treatment or can you just regularly clean & polish?
Cheers
Rob

I would contact Brent Owens. He polishes 90% of his RV-8. He can clearly articulate the amount of effort to keep it looking nice.
Bob Collins would be the other person I would talk to about polishing.
You should be able to PM either of them on VAF. I also have their emails. If you send me an email, I'll respond with their contact information.

If you want to spend the rest of your life trying to keep it polished, don't paint.
The paint ain't cheap but what is your time worth?
Just noticed where you live. You can leave it outside during a sandstorm and get that nice brushed aluminum look.

I had started to polish mine (bottom of the wings) and was pretty convinced I was going to polish all of the metal, but sold it before I got that far. It takes an extraordinary amount of time to get to the "S" polish in the Nuvite system, but once there, it is amazing. Once or twice a year, spending a week polishing was what I figured.

Thanks Paulie!! The aircraft is in my home country of the UK! The climate is slightly more hospitable there!
