So how was the tax triggered? What is it based on? How could this happen without some press? Are Pilots who live in Maine subject to these taxes also?

If you visit Maine more than 20 days during the 1st year of ownership of your plane, then you will get taxed 5% of the sales and use tax on that aircrafts value/purchased price.

I think I'll boycott visiting Maine altogether if they feel they must do something like this. According to an article I read, they currently are collecting about 2 million tax dollars with this bogus tax in effect.
