My Update:

This flu bug has hit me REALLY HARD!

I haven't stepped foot in the shop since Friday!

I have been doing the things I need to do, but nothing more. Whenever I get a chance, I sleep!

Hopefully tomorrow I will DO SOMETHING!

One thing I need to do is straighten out the loft so I can prepare for the finish kit arrival!

I'm with you bro. Was feeling fine yesterday morning, by the time I got home from work I could barely stand I was so dizzy and weak. Not charactaristic of the ol' Flying Dutchman.

Before the flu knocked me on my butt I was able to alodyne all my vertical stabilizer spars and ribs. I primed the ribs as well. All that's left is to prime the spars and reinforcement plate and then start riveting. I may almost get it done. We'll see.

Well CJ, I'm glad I didn't drive to your house last week then! I'd be laid up as well! I was at a loss of what to do to get home from New York City last Thursday, and if I didn't make a flight, I was going to get a car and drive to Plymouth to spend Christmas at your house!!

I made it home, and I'm not sick (at least right now...). I hope you guys feel better soon!!! :(

Chad, I was thinking the same thing!

It would have been nice to see you again, but this isn't any fun!

What is killing me is that I can't even muster the energy to go to the health club! I am losing weight, but I KNOW that it is due to muscle atrophy!

I have been getting out of the house for short trips here and there, but I need a nap when I get back home. Wyatt sure likes the short trips and that I am home with him! We fire up the pellet stove and sleep in front of it together!

I think I will try to get some 'cillin today!

Not directly related to the Holiday Challenge, but I stumbled across a local -6A builder and may have scored his complete set of building tools for 1/2 the total of his receipts, along with some guidance through the building process! :yay:

Well, thanks to mother nature I am finally back in the shop working. We are getting pounded here in CO with our second blizzard in just over a week and the base I work on is shut down. I have been working on the top skin and instrument panel installation. Will be moving on to seat backs and roll bars soon.

By posting this on the 29th, I am somewhat cheating, buy the 2nd of Jan I want to...

A) Have my fuse kit inventoried and a home found for all the parts.
B) Ailerons... deburred, dimpled, and ready for riveting.

An update for my progress.

Zero, zip, zilch, nada!

I have only been in the shop once and that was to show someone the project. I'm not complaining though. We have had a fair amount of company and family in. Luke had knee surgery last week and is just getting going again. My daughters BF is here from Alabama for the week also and tomorrow we will be giving him the "tour" of the area where we live, our farm, etc. so that will pretty much shoot the day. On top of that I came down with a chest cold too. Maybe Sunday and Monday I can make some progress.

See, all I have is a bunch of excuses!

Hope everyone has a great New Years!

Update:

RV:

1) Had to move my wing jig as I read the required dimensions incorrectly (I really think they were drawn wrong on the plans) :D
2) Fit all of the ribs to the main & rear spar of the left wing, then match drilled them.

Today I got the grocery shopping done for our friend's New Years Eve party (I"m doing the cooking -- he just finished an RV-8A, btw).

Tomorrow I will catch up on all of the laundry (we've been out of town, so nothing's been done around here. ) I will also get some more of my cross-stitch done, and read Chapter 2 of my "right-seat" flying book.

Well, there's a P-51 and a Corsair, but no Cub (although the Beaver is Cub Yellow, so you get some credit there  ). From the top down on the wall is a 72" Pilatus Porter, 65" P-51D, 62" Corsair, and an Airtronics Aquila sailplane (99"). The Beaver on the table is 96", and the navy/yellow plane in the cradle is a Sig Kobra (45") :drink:

Well, My week didn't turn out anything like I had planned!

OTOH, it still isn't over!

So far to sum it up,

*I have had the flu.
*I slept most of the week away.
*I electrocuted myself.

But TONIGHT I was back in the shop tinkering again. Man, did that feel right!

*I cleaned out the loft to accept my finish kit due early January.
*I pounded 100 plus rivets tonight with more to follow tomorrow.

2007 needs to get off to a good start, otherwise... this is gonna be one LOOOONG YEAR!

Here is my update - it's been a great RV vacation so far. My front spars are done, and the rear spars are prepped, match-drilled, primed, and ready for rivets. Tomorrow AM they should be done and I'll be moving on to a BIG pile of ribs!

I'm excited to see how the wings are going together - it will be awesome to see some BIG structure coming together soon. :)

It's been great weather here in IA, so I got out to fly a Cessna yesterday.... that's almost as good as building.

Hope you are all well, and CJ I'm glad you're OK.

Update #3

RV:

1) Decided on a routing method for all of the electrical wires in the wings and drilled the appropriate holes.
2) Finished deburring, cleaning, & prepping of LW ribs.
3) Primed all of the LW ribs.

I think I might have a shot at getting these ribs riveted onto the spar before I go back to work on Tuesday. This is fun 8)
