Hi gang,

 It's been quite a while since I checked in. My attention has been in other directions for a while ... I guess I'm too easily distracted ...

Anyhow, I just wanted to pipe up and let you know I'm back again ... you know, before I start chiming into some of the conversations going on.

Progress report ... I have been building ... one tank finished itself a couple of weeks ago ... got the first leading edge finished and riveted on ... just starting with riveting the skins on the first wing.

Loose -

Welcome back...

Post pics if you have them!!
There are several builders at this same stage (Chad, JohnR, Smitty, me, others...) and we can all benefit from sharing

I'm just behind you (both tanks finished - and leading edges riveted together.
This weekend I hope to start installing the Duckworks landing / taxi lights.
I figure it's best to do this before I rivet the LE to the main spar.

LooseNut ... I like your handle!

If you have photos we would love to see them. Lorin just keeps rubbing in that he now has his tanks done to remind the rest of us that haven't gotten quite that far.

Welcome back Loose!! Nice to see you around again! I'd like to see some pics as well. I hope to get my tanks finished up this week, and move on to the LE's next weekend.

:P Ahh, you guys are great! Thanks for the warm welcome!

The LooseNut name comes from a little joke, something along the lines of ... "I think the only problem with this plane is the loose nut holding the control stick ..."

Don't be giving me too much credit ... I only have one tank finished! And, by the way, it hasn't been leak tested yet ... so maybe not?? Anyway, it looks to me like it'll hold the gas inside ... and I'll get to the leak test "real soon now".

So, I put the first tank together using the instructions from Vans. It works ok that way, but, I sure spent a lot of time cleaning stuff!

Now recently I've read about this new technique of sealing in all the ribs, clecoing it, then waiting until the next day before riveting. Boy, this really makes sense to me now. I'll be giving that a try for the second tank.

By the way, I too had the briliant I-DEE-ER  that putting a return line (aka purge line) into the tank might be easier now than later. Kinda funny, my budget says carburator, but those fuel-injection gizzmos are pretty sexy! So I put in a 1/4" (-4) fitting into the root rib wth just a short straight tube into the second bay. I put a cap on it for now.

I picked a 1/4" return line for no better reason than ...
1))) When I looked at Van's catalog and saw the double Andair valve, it had 3/8" fittings for the the supply side and 1/4" fittings for the return side.
2))) Then I saw Airflow Performance's purge valve and that seemed to use a 1/4" line too (although I can't seem to find that now to verify).

Then I looked at Eggenfellner's Subies, and I saw they recomended using a 5/16" (-5) tubing ... dang, that's a wierd size!

So now I'm wondering how smart my modification really was. If I was going through the trouble, maybe I should have put in a 3/8" line and put it all the way out to the end of the tank where it can vent above the level of the fuel? I'm always second guessing myself! :?

I saw that ECI sells a fuel injection system (TITAN EXP Fuel Injection System) so, I thought I might ask these engine dudes what they recomend for the return line. I sent them a note asking this weighty question ... I'll pass on the answer when I gets it.

... I'll have to figure that picture posting thing ... and get a snap shot or two in here ... I sure enjoy the pictures of the work you folks have been posting up!
