I got this link from my bearhawk list.
This really shows what an airplane should be:

Unbeatable design
Y'all are gonna be putting your kits/planes up for sale to raise the cash for this one.

Is it supposed to be a toy? :? Real engine and all, but that prop has no airfoil shape to it, and the *spars* are tiny steel tubes?? Oh my! :o

Nice find Keith!! I'm biddin' right now!

those are galvanized steel tubes. think corrosion resistance

Don't forget the 2x4 bottom skin, and the plywood rudder. :o

Speaking of 2x4's, I think that makes an elegant and very sophisticated landing gear system!! May need to update my plans and incorporate something like that on the -7. Of course, I'll have to change a few things being that I'm sure this one is patented.

Hey Thomas, it's about halfway between you and I...want to split it???

I will need to hear is run, and do a taxi test before I'm sold on it, but I think it looks like a performer!

How 'bout you buy it and I'll pick it up?

You would have to have some brass ones to fly that thing ... wonder if it is a kit or something someone came up with on their own? I agree about the prop ... and how about the airfoil - I guess it's symmetric for aerobatics!

  The part I like is the statement that says "Tail Section may be a mockup, not sure"

The sad part is I'm sure there is someone out there who would try to fly it! :o

Actually I think it is what many people picture when they find out I am building an airplane in my shop.

I'm not sure which I liked better: The odometer on the "airspeed indicator" or the power take off control.

At least your could fly acro with confidence; stressed for 1/4 G positive, 1/8 G negative!

This is the same reaction I get when I try and tell people what Beth and I are building. They get a look on their face like they just smelled something that...well...looks like that thing!

It's a project like this, that gives experimental kits like ours a bad impression to the non-avaition public. I'm sure there are a lot of people who picture a project like that in their minds, when we tell them we are building an airplane in our cellars/garages from a kit.

I don't know why I bother but I asked the seller to please reclassify it as a go-cart or anything other than an airplane, which it obviously isn't. Depending on how he comes across in his reply I'll report the auction to eBay. It's just wrong to list that pile of lumber as an airplane. Gives homebuilders a bad image. :x

It doesn't bother me so much that he calls it an airplane. Here's a quote from the listing:

"It appears to me that this is a parade or show type plane which in not ment for flight in its current construction."

That seems like a pretty good disclaimer, other than the misspelling. It's obvious to any pilot that it's a toy, and no non-pilot would be likely to buy it thinking he could bolt it together and take off. But if someone did, hey, there's no law against stupidity or ignorance.

As far as the general public having a bad image of experimentals, I don't care what they think. I'm too old to give a rat's ass about what anyone thinks of me or my hobbies. Oh wait, that's right, now I remember, I never gave a rat's ass when I was younger, either. 8)

I know I shouldn't care what other people think but I think it's important that the general public see "kit planes", as they call them or "experimentals", as we call them, for what they really are: Extreamly capable XC and aerobatic aircraft that outperform many of the certified aircraft of today.

In my tiny little mind it seems like they might be more likely to believe in general aviation as a whole if they know we're not building go carts like the one in this auction. He should title the auction "full size mock up" instead of "AIRPLANE HANDBUILT EXPERIMENTAL VW ENGINE Project plane"
