Roadblock!!!! Dang it!

Well I hit a roadblock.

Most of you know I fly on a special issuance medical cuz I had two stents placed in my LAD artery a couple years ago.

Well last week I had my annual round of stress testing/myocardial perfushion study (nuclear) testing done and it came back abnormal even though I exceeded the hear rates and times required by the FAA. :(

Heart cath scheduled for the 23rd...Hope and pray it comes back clean. If not I am sure I will get another stent and that will start the special issuance roller coaster all over again with a minimum 6 month downtime....

Oh well it is better than being dead! I have a great family to live for! Maybe I built the wrong airplane. Should I have went with an RV12? Oh thats right, there was no RV12 10 years ago when I started this adventure. I suppose I can always sell the 7 and build a 12 but that would be hard to swallow...

Don't do anything rash just yet Brian. It took you 10 years to get this far, another 6months shouldn't be a game breaker.

Maybe you could just paint " RV12 " on the side of your -7 . Might just fool the FAA for a few months!

Brian,

There is a bright side here. At least your down time is the winter months. Hopefully you'll be in flying shape next spring!

Actually pretty simple. You already have the airplane. Simply find a CFI that your wife likes and turn her loose to get her license. When you get your medical back you will have two medicals in the family; until then the two of you can fly together.

My wife is going to start taking pitch hitter lessons so she can get our plane back on the ground if anything happens to me. Not a bad idea for all of us.

Put the battery on the firewall. I built an RV-6A and after I had the battery box holes made in the firewall and the battery box all done, and the Concorde Battery for behind the firewall. I learned that the RV-7's were putting their batteries on the firewall. I was reall temepted to move mine but I was reall to far along to change it nicely. This will simplify wiring of the #2 wire. Even though my battery is right behind the firewall the closer the battery is to the starter the better it is for starting in cold weather. Living in Minnesota that is a plus! :) It would also then be easier to wire an outside plug for battery boosting or jump starting. I don't have either. :bang: I have a Sensech metal prop which helps my weith and balance. If you have compsite or wood prop all the more important to have the battery on the firewall!
