Canopy Progress!

I am very psyched to announce that I was able to open my tip up for the first time today. The canopy process really hasn't been that bad. The cut(s) went well, as did the drilling and countersinking. The only scare I had was when I dropped the back window off of the garbage can I was using for a stand, and chipped a 1 inch by 3/4 inch chunk out of it. I was REALLY fortunate that I was able to cut that damage out.

So after all that, today I carefully lifted the canopy, and it swung up without binding in front. I'm sure things will change once I put the struts on, but for now I am enjoying how the plane looks with the canopy and rear window in place and having the ability to open it. Very cool! Time for the a lot of priming, painting and glassing!

SEE!?!

I told you they were listening!

(Inside joke... Antony was all self-conscious about nobody replying immediately to his post.)

Antony, We are all just as happy about your progress as you are!!!

They are right though. We do need pictures of your smiling face next to the canopy!

Sounds like you are making great strides! Miss not having you around!

Keep posting pics! Hopefully we will see you soon!!!

Way to go!!!

:) CJ

Antony, Wicked cool!

Put in those NACA vents now!

...and the holes for the steps are cut, you can do those.

How about the crotch strap, is that put in?

The rudder cables can be run too!

Have you done the flap rod and motor yet? You can do that!

Install firewall doublers for the electrics too!

While you are at it, the hole for the heat can be shot.

LOTS MORE TO DO!!!

Get crackin!!!

Hey John,

Next step is a lot of painting (canopy frame, rollbar and cockpit interior). Of the rest of your list the only things I have done are the steps (though didn't rivet them in yet so don't keep bumping into them) and flap motor, rod.

What do you mean by firewall doublers for electronics? I haven't looked at any firewall forward docs yet.

You will need to install 0.063 doublers behind your relays, current limiters ans shunts.

Might as well do them now!
