Oil filter drain back support... some test results for15C oil temp. looks clean after one hour, need to check it in a day or two. next test is 0C oil temp, then hot oil. the procedure is: 1) remove filter with fingers and let it drip a couple seconds, 2) install filter support (loose easy fit but secure) and place filter on support and oil will drain into the cup. the goal is the oil should not drain over the sides of the cup and everything should remain clean. I'll make another version with a couple small oil dams on the fwd face just for my curiosity to test but at the moment this is looking good.

Oil filter drain back support... ah, the frivolous things where I spend time. the cold oil test looks good. the oil didn't pile up at the bottom so I can extend my oil dam slightly. I reduced the end bar length. if the hot oil test looks good then this one is done. this widget should solve a minor inconvenience for me.

Oil filter drain back support... the cold oil 1 day test results showed everything remained clean. the hot oil test is in progress but the oil was less viscous and showed no problem to drain. so, I believe the limiting case is cold oil. I could declare success but I have a disease with details and I wondered if some additional guide rails would be beneficial as a positive oil stop. so, this is my next version. while I am doing this I might as well consider adverse conditions such as the filter base not being vertical in the vise and test for some off angle conditions.

Oil filter drain back support... 10 degree off angle test. guide rails are working. oil piling up because of end support angle but still no leaks. this is room temp oil because I forgot to put the oil in the freezer. cold oil is the worst case condition. I made some adjustment to the design to correct the oil piling and increased the length of the guide rail slightly.

adjusted design for 10 degree off angle. I did a test and I can install the filter easily by hand 10 times and be within plus or minus 3 degrees of vertical. so, a 10 degree angle allowance should be plenty. plan to test again with cold oil.

Oil filter drain back support... 10 degree off angle test with cold oil and oil dump at near at near vertical. everything remained clean and dry but I'm still not happy with it and I'm getting tired of it and not sure why. I'll take a couple days off from it and then come back to it, but it is amazing that such a small support and handle so much oil.

Oil filter drain back support... I dug back into this, cleaned up the model and enlarged the oil dams and oil guide rails. now I am happy with it. 10 degree offset from vertical normal drain and overload drain worked well with cold oil (38F Phillips 20/50). cold oil is worse case for draining.

Custom size tool holder concept. basically, a small tool holder that can be made to any custom size. only 13 inputs on the CAD needed to make this part. the custom sizes would be length, depth and width.

Custom size tool holder concept. relatively quick to print and strong. the open end sides had some tow in during printing. not sure what to do about that at the moment but I may test a different printing orientation. this first print is useable for me. now I need to find a use for it.

Custom size tool holder concept. hey, I think I discovered something. a thin temporary bulkhead was used at the end that was having a tow in problem and this part printed well and bulkhead snapped out easily. this makes a very clean part. the temporary bulkhead is separated from the part by .010 all around. I've never seen it done like this before. I may be the first. UV resistant material.

Custom size tool holder and move the fastener rack to a better location instead of over my workbench. one small change led to another bigger change. isn't that the way it goes.

Custom size tool holder. #4 test, beginning to dial it in. I used another development part to hold some color light remotes because I was tired of digging them out of the drawer. not sure where to put them, so I just stuck them somewhere. dual lock still holding my 1.1 lb weight on a headset holder. the remote holder dual lock is probably safe for 20 years.

Custom size tool holder. sizing a hold for a cockpit flashlight. when it's critical, it needs to be where it's supposed to be. also, adding a holder for this 10 yr old light. it just keeps going. I'm wondering if I have a dedicated place for it, will I not have to hunt for it as much? time will tell.

I noticed my smooth throttle knob is seeing some wear. feels better every day. the best thing I ever did. just torqued it with a nut, no glue or anything on the threads. 1 year or more (I can't remember) but going strong. this is my T6 (test 6) version. the pull out load for the insert was 1000 lbs. I may have applied 1 lb to this knob during usage. safety factor of 1000. rock on!

Custom size tool holder..... round.

I tried a round variation. the print process needs some work, but I think I know what to do to clean it up. it fun just to try something different.

3 hole elevator gust lock, metal web. since there has been several orders for these lately, I decided to rig one to have a look at it. it's like a brick house. I though I would wrap some protective layer around the gust lock web area that contacts the elevator for the paint. rig it with rope tomorrow. alum web = .032 inch thickness.

3 hole elevator gust lock, metal web. added anti-chaff Teflon tape to the leading edges. this increases the web leading edge thickness from .032 to .057 inch. Teflon tape thickness = .0125 inch, relatively thick tape. the leading edge thickness with this tape is a nice fit to the 3 hole printed retainers.
