when your wife asks you to fix the pan lid. threads are stripped. 1 hour total. it can take the heat. no problem to exceed 300F. max is about 425F for this part but if it goes there you may need to retorque. my wife hates to throw anything away that still has some value, so repairing stuff like this makes her happy.

throttle quadrant tension lever.... I needed to revisit this one as I didn't understand the need for threads. my bad. it's done now and makes more sense. an 8-minute print. replaces an alum part. nylon / carbon fiber.

Bose A20 headset control module mount.... having a run on these. solid flanges on both ends allow for a P-clamp to be attached and secured to the backside and then to a tube. these are solid beefy mounts.

play some music while you work in your bare feet and pajamas.... wake up and take a photo because they are nice, then go back to sleep. command Alexa to wake you when they are done. a nice Sunday. :)

someone was asking about quart oil mount, but then I saw this. it's already been done. :)

over the past eleven years, I have never needed to add oil on any trip. it seems like it could be a leak potential and then make a mess. the oil mount would probably be blamed for the incident. I recommend not to carry oil in the plane. or perhaps, if you're Vlad and squeezing the 5000th hour from the engine in Alaska, just throw in a case on the floor. makes the nose wheel lighter.

complete custom RV-14 gust lock set shipping within 10 hours of order. I think that is a record for me. the new HS3 machine makes it possible.

shipping in my cheap boxes, but with insurance. :)

some RV size throttle knobs printed today. I've had mine for four years and it's probably the best thing I have done because that's the one item I touch often. it's good to customize the touch points of anything you operate. I think I made the geometry on this one just right. super glue is OK for thread lock but no blue Loctite because it contains acetone. I did NOT apply any thread lock to mine, and it has been secure for four years. I guarantee the user will smile when he/she first touches this.

I developed a method to install the threaded inserts with a simple tool, so they run perfectly true.

seat belt side retainers.... the attaching surface is a compound curve to fit the fuselage geometry perfectly between the aft canopy lower screws 6 and 7. these are useful when loading a bike or baggage to move the seatbelts out of the way.

tip up roll bar grips. some discussion tonight in the hangar... what happens if you crash and somehow these grips bind, and you can't get the canopy open. one thing you could do is reach up and peel them off from the backside.

different material for the Infinity stick cover and a smash test. the existing ABS cover served me well for the past 3 years. it was my second one because I damaged the first one laying upside down under the panel against the stick. the new material is not as stiff and when smashed it can return the original shape and it is UV resistant. it is always nice to upgrade something.

someone ordered the 6.35mm (.25 inch) 30 deg baffle seals, so I hit the print button. hopefully, they will send a photo of the installation since it will be the first angled ignition wire seal installation in history.

think about it.... you imagine the smooth ignition wire flow you want, then design a feature that makes it happen. then press a button. it's like walking thru a mystical forest, full of possibilities. :) where will be with 3D printing in five more years, I don't know, but it is looking promising.

canopy breaker.... I decided to make a mount for a Estwing 13 oz rock pick to be used as a canopy breaker in case I am upside down and need to get out. thinking about being upside down in the cockpit and what I would be able to reach. ideally, I would like it to be behind the seat for safe storage, but would I be able to get to it? what is the probability I will need it? what is the risk of a loose rock pick if it is forward of the baggage area? the rock pick will definitely have a sheath when stored. still thinking about it... and looking for a fighting chance to survive.

drive it thru and rotate. it should crack in four directions.

I believe this is the position I will design for the first prototype mounting. I will make a custom sheath so that is it is quick release so that sliding the sheath thru the handle to remove is not required. the breaking motion is to punch thru and then rotate. this pick is very sharp.

that's not too bad...some nice elliptical tapers.... dimensionally correct. good enough for a mount design.

my conclusion from looking at this in detail is that Estwing knows how to get everything out of a rock pick. it's mechanically elegant for pounding on rocks.

the best thing I ever did was to get rid of my throttle knob. that thing was rough and hurt my hand. just like a bicycle, it is good to make the touch points as comfortable as possible.

working today, printing a lot of stuff.... someone requested a 5mm spark plug lead seal. I believe he intends to use this for coil wires. so, I designed and made some. a quick turn. you can crank up the heat with these.

RV12 rudder pedal extensions, 1.5 inch offset from the bar. the bolt is interference fit. this is a simple design, but the printing is the most technical of anything I do, tapered wall thickness, oozing control, etc. plastic part weight = 69 grams each, with bolt = 84 grams each. if you add four of these to the aircraft, it's a 336-gram total weight addition. these are printed hot for good z axis bonding. I use a large nozzle for the long carbon fiber strands, so I do fight the goobers, but the importance is the function and strength. these are very strong and lightweight.

Three-wire, 8mm spark plug wire seals are in demand for some reason. I'm making an effort to maintain a steady stock of them. I printed these today.

Baffle seals continue to roll off the production line, with the angled version gaining some traction. It's intriguing to consider how well it's performing, given the lack of feedback—perhaps no news is good news. Here's to you, Bell's is a good one.
