my youngest daughter installed her ABS printed brackets to support the lighting of her latest fish tank. the brackets are holding a 6 lb light suspended over the tank. they are plenty strong and unique. I'm proud of her for putting it all together, recreating nature in a small space. I am glad I could help with a few things. she got me going again during a covid spell, cutting wood for her design, and that was probably good for me. she did it with her own money...

seat back anti-snag corners.... after a couple months of loading and unloading my folding bike in a floppy bag, these corner protectors are working very well. prevents snagging luggage on the seat back corners. with the folding bike usually traveling with me, I probably load and unload the largest bulky item in an RV9 more than anyone, and I can do it quickly. no need to move the seat position for the Liberte bike.

maybe an inexpensive dome rivet drill-out guide tool? I'll make one for testing purposes. I may also try something for flush rivets but that will be more difficult to locate the center.

dome rivet drill-out finger tool. adjust the length on these to be 1, 1.5, 2.0 inc, or whatever.... the interesting part will be inserting the steel bore liner.

some progress.... Oozebot high temp nylon carbon fiber trial parts with heat deflection temp of 460F, max excursion temp = 350F. nice to have someone dial this in for me while I'm out riding my bike!

dome rivet drill-out finger tool... I tested a couple versions of this tool. it's been a long time since I drilled out any rivets, about 10 years. I was pleased with 4 of 5 rivet removals. the tool makes is easy to get close to the center. no punching the dot. I liked my version 4 of the tool end best. I'll make a couple changes and continue testing. I suppose the main takeaway is, would I use this tool over the punch the dot method. the answer is "yes". I think this method is more reliable.

converging on the nice finger feel. some versions... I like the last one because it feels good, very secure and comfortable in the finger. It's all for play! that's what I do. let your mind be free. :)

dome rivet drill-out finger tool... what about a path to shed the chips? the print needs some clean up but good enough for testing. I haven't tested any more of these finger tools since my first prototype.

dome rivet drill-out finger tool...hey, this wasn't too bad. drilled thru the center of each rivet. used punch to snap off the head and pulled the tail thru. it was easy. approx .010 inch on the sides of the tails. I didn't touch the sides of any rivet holes. the finger tool shed the chips well. some chips may have embedded in the plastic, so not sure how long the tool will last. drill tool size is .120 inch, #31 drill size.

dome rivet drill-out finger tool... I think I am closing in on this. theses may be the last versions to test. the last one looks like a rocket ship.

Image

Image

*********

the little rocket ship was not as good as the original. it has to do with the finger placement and where to force is applied. it seems applying force closer to the rivet head is better. I learned something.

I will open the tool rivet contact to bring the tool down on the rivet further to understand the effects.

dome rivet drill-out finger tool... version 16 seems to be dialed-in better. my drilling surface was not completely stable, but the tool did an acceptable job. for a very small tool, I believe this is the best geometry for grip and drilling stability. I am happier with this one.

using #31 drill bit.

Garmin Aera 760 GPS Docks keep rolling.... prep to ship. a couple of these are going to Mexico. these must work OK in the heat. breathing slots on all sides. no complaints so far. the new options for mounting hole position to the dock face seems to be working well and allows for complete customization.

one of these is GPS Flush to Dock the other two are GPS Recessed. all of these are minimum outer dimensions for a small footprint.

I found some nice saddle washers for the RV12 rudder pedal extensions, but I don't know if they are a benefit. they are out for a trial fit. no complaints on these but I thought a saddle washers would be good to include.

some scratches on aft bulkhead from the tow bar. I admit I just throw it in there but I don't like scratches. I tried teflon tape but in this area it doesn't work. so, I printed a .045-inch-thick scratch protector and attached it with a couple a couple glue spots. seems to be tough enough with the same material I use to print the trays and they have had a lot of abuse from bikes and camping gear. it is important for the brackets to tuck the tow bar close to the bulkhead because I need every mm of baggage space. I believe the tow bar and brackets will last the life of the aircraft.

when bonding it is beneficial to have some constant pressure on the items, hence the foam.

I decided to see if I could eliminate any interference by using a washer head screw AN525 1/4-28, -20 length. seems to help.

the nut doesn't need to be that large, but all I had, one thread is exposed so good enough, but I may be able to find a low-profile nut, just because I don't like it.

had a request, thinking about an Amploc Key100 sensor mount.... clamshell, anti-rotation tab for center spacer. I'm thinking about obsidian, nylon/glass fiber, 350F deflection temp. very resistant to oils and fuels. but the big question, what color?

kicking around an option for winding around the sensor.... perhaps mirror the cutout to allow winding on both sides?

need to rotate the cutout to clear the flange, still a concept.
