3 hole elevator gust lock, metal web. rigging went well. I can install this gust lock in 33 seconds at a relaxed speed. I believe I could take 5 seconds off this if I had left 2-3 inches of web sticking below the lower left gust lock. I think I'll remake that web and try it and see if I can get to 28 seconds. Overall, it works very well and the anti-chaff Teflon tape on the web leading edge shows no distress so I think it will be fine. this gust lock method is just another option. good for those that don't have much gap between the fairing and the elevator horn. I will continue to use my fully plastic version because it is lighter and more compact but I believe this metal web version could withstand higher loads. the web width for these = 2.35 inch of .032 6061 alum sheet.

RV6 Rudder gust lock... a couple of folks have recently asked about a RV6 rudder gust lock. I made one a couple years ago for someone in Texas. I'll add this one, but you will need to measure the rudder trailing edge where the gust lock will rest.

3 hole elevator gust lock, metal web. left side metal web extended thru to ease installation. I gained 3 seconds on the install time by doing this. install time down to 30 seconds. good to go.

prototype cup holder for a 9. to be located at the fuel selector. I usually put a water bottle between the seats, but I would like to be able to hold a paper cup at times. I don't know if I will really like it. lightweight, 32 grams.

cup holder for a 9. I initially just guessed at the size but it's not bad. however, I cannot fit my water bottle in there, so I will open it up some... one click on the computer. it's seems to be rock solid and out of the way enough not to snag it and access to the fuel control is not a factor. pardon the ugly leg in the photos.

the cup holder is a winner. I'm keeping it. it is better that the cup sets low in the holder, about like this.

nice, big, RV-12 rudder pedal extensions. these are strong and lightweight; I may have to raise my prices to slow the train. material is nylon/carbon fiber and is becoming more expensive. nylon/carbon fiber pedal extension weight = 69 grams less the bolt. just for grins, I calculated the equivalent weight in solid alum = 265 grams. that is 75 percent weight reduction.

Bungee cord rudder gust lock with rope limiter. allows the rudder to have bungee freedom with a positive stop. could be good for a tail dragger or will work for nose wheel version. maybe one could put a floating wrap/sleeve around the bungee and rope to clean it up. it is just another way to externally secure the rudder.

thinking crazy, what if the cup holder was doubled to fit two? perhaps it should be designed to be break away in case someone snags it. only to be installed when my wife is with me on a trip, or maybe never if it is prone to be snagged.

double cup holder. I think this is going to be fine. I gave it more flex capability in the print. plenty rigid for holding a cup. now I have a place for both the coffee and the water, or two coffees. I forgot to weigh this part, but the computer says it should be 48 grams. it is usually very close on the weights. I would call this a "total performance cup holder". :) I'll fly with this part for a while to understand if I really like it.

outside lap seat belt holder, trial run. I like to know exactly where my seat belts are stored, every time. store them away before you get out. easy on / off. very secure with 3M dual lock. this orientation or rotated 90 CCW would work. this orientation allows more room to just throw it on there.

thinking about the opposite side lap belt (the one with the buckle). one more to go.

my temporary music wires from bluetooth are bundled below.... to be cleaned up when my 90 deg stereo to mono adapter arrives.

medium size fast food cup, very secure. cup holder, typical size. double cup is working. I didn't drink the Pepsi because I'm on a 22:2 OMAD diet and dropping the weight. 8 miles covered yesterday on the track. going for a top 5 in the half marathon, git-r-done! however, per this guy, it is better to go for a long walk to burn fat. I'll mix it up. https://youtu.be/GoQ_Qt2REgQ

I already like the lap belt side holder. I should have done that years ago. It's right there and I know in the future I will not even need to look for it.

seat belt lap - buckle side holder. OK, this wasn't too bad but need some lean back to be more secure, or it that doesn't work, try something else. however, I really like the ease of storage and retrieval, so I'll push this concept. secured with very small pieces of dual lock for testing only. (I like that stuff). please pardon the belly in one photo, I covered 8 miles on the track today and it was 33C in the hangar. hot! I also rigged the wife's side belt storage. when I do small things to make it more convenient, they add up.

this must be GPS Dock season. printing a bunch.

time to get rid of the Aera 510 backup, mounted on the side wall. it is good but I have enough GPS units.

*********
I'll give this one a try next. a little wider, not much, but taller so as not to scratch the paint if I miss. a longer tang.

seat belt lap - buckle side holder. I tried this one but still the buckle slides out too easily for my taste. then I decided to get serious and remove the belt and model it properly to get the correct engagement and locking geometry. I think I have it. this buckle style is AMSAFE

******************

2nd prototype, slides out too easily

Image

Image

******************

3rd prototype, I like this one. a light positive engagement that raises the buckle slightly (just for the engagement feel). you cannot roll it out when fully or partially engaged. must extract it upwards to remove. I'll install a couple of these and give them a test. I think I will be happy with this.

seat belt lap - buckle side holder. OK, I just blew myself away with this. very clean and secure. perfect engagement feeling. easy to stow and retrieve. I"ll let them run for testing. no more looking for belts or sitting on them! it's the little things in life.....

almost a perfect day. I purchased 3 pair of running shorts and they arrived today. I needed them and unpackaged them all and grabbed a pair. it seemed really tight. all were X-small. :)

outside lap seat belt holder update. knocking around in the cockpit wiring my bluetooth, I knocked the belt loose from the holder and I didn't like that so I decided to make it more secure. better now. still, plenty of room to allow it to be just thrown on there. reminds me of a certain type of pants belt buckle but this one goes straight on, no twisting.

now just playing around to optimize to get the last 5 percent. versions 4 and 5 for testing. 22:2 OMAD diet is dropping my energy level, for the past 2 days, no running. however, today the energy level is 80% so I'm heading to the track. weight is coming down. the goal for race day is to be lean and 100% energy and fast, where I feel like I have been shot out of gun.
