Zizzo Liberte - folding bike

good recommendation by a friend. I did some research and decided to try it. Amazon had it to me is 4 hrs. I don't know how they do that. it rides well, actually amazingly well. this may be a solution for me. I think the box weighs as much as the bike. the bike is 23 lb. tomorrow is a heavy printing day, so I will not get to test fit it in the plane until late. I feel like I'm 10 yrs old with a new bike. I think I could put some miles on this bike.

a bike is a 4x range extender compared to walking for the same amount of energy.

I like this bike. smooth, stabile, very maneuverable when slow, and can go fast. I tried a couple of placement locations in the plane. I like the baggage area option best. put the bike in the bag, throw it on your shoulder, climb up and swing it in. the seat stem (a hard point) rides on the hard foam that carries my jack. I think I will get a lot of use from this bike. 23 lb. amazing. a good recommedation!

I got 2 of the Zizzo Urbano - pretty much the same with wider tires. They both fit in the back of my 9A tip up with no problems. The bikes are not as stout as a regular mountain bike but ride nice. Considering the option is walking, they work great!

yep, I'm loaded and ready to go. I swapped the seat from my road bike to the Liberte and added a water bottle. looking fwd to see what this bike can do. I hope I don't have a flat because the designed tool bag and air pump are not here yet. I can break this bike down, load it and be ready to fly in about 5 minutes. very easy to load when it's in a bag and on the shoulder.

some guy on a mountain with one of these. https://youtu.be/3I4aaDk6LFo?t=594

I got both of mine loaded and we are headed to Boyne Mt. in the morning. Where did you get the bag? That would make it a lot easier.

the Liberte passed the test with flying colors. about 20 miles today and feel great. the bike was easy to load and quick. 20-inch tires are okay for gravel. tire pressure = 100 psi. brakes were fair. I left the bike in the plane for the next ride.

I had a late start because I needed to ship some plastic parts and I wondered if I should cancel because I thought I may run out of daylight. no worries, I got all the riding in and more. perfect weather, music and a bike.

no one moved the book I started there. you can't get this one on the Kindle, only hardback.

an old timer at the airport said a 60 yr old woman was attacked by 3 wild dogs while walking on a trail there last week. they had to amputate her leg. I may pack my Glock next time. cell service is spotty. the stray dog at the airport was friendly. the old man feeds her. she has pups.

We had a nice flight but it was too cold to ride bikes! We had breakfast and came back home. Flying was fun and I am grateful my wife enjoys flying too!

glad you had a good safe flight. it's no fun to ride when you're cold.

it was warmer in Ohio. I tried to ride the Big Clitty but it beat me down, so I had to push it up. it's a steep grade but I really didn't mind pushing the bike because it is so light weight. other than that, 1/4 mile, it was very good. Madison Indiana downtown really impressed me. it was nice! definitely need to go back. the Clifty State Park is very well maintained and is a lot deeper than you think. cut by glacier water 20K yrs ago. the bike is still in the plane, and I'm fueled up and ready to go. I come back from these trips feeling very good and jamming to the music. I think I rode about 20 miles today and feel really good. I raised the seat one notch and dropped the bars one notch, ride stability improved. I like the Zizzo!

perfect weather, music and a bike.... I'm trying to get as much as I can while it lasts.

St Marys and Neil Armstrong airport. for some reason I felt really good to announce landing at Neil Armstrong. it truly is tranquility base and very nice. on the way out, I said departing Neil to the South (but most call "Armstrong"). up to second ISS coverage. covered more than 20 miles today and the Zizzo was good. I received my Zizzo upgrade package today. a mirror, bottle and pump holder combo, socket pedals, etc. I've found that when you're on a small bike, everyone wants to talk to you. where are you going, where did you come from, etc.... St. Mary's was very nice and the drivers up that way are friendly. Miami lock #13 is there, that connected the Ohio river to Lake Erie years ago. demonstrated the mechanical rotating nose wheel chock to the line guys, they were impressed. I charged the phone with warp on the way up. green bean lunch was $8 total. a very good day. I'm ready to go tomorrow.

thanks, Neil, for everything.

I realized that when you ride a bicycle, you get a "feel" for that place, that you do not get any other way, except maybe by walking but it is faster. flying gives a bird's eye view and I like to fly over my bicycle route on the way in, then ride it. bicycling allows for a better area "feel" than when in a car or even on a motorcycle and the locals are friendlier to a person on a bicycle. that's my observation so far. I think alltrails.com website may become my new reference for trips. that, along with google maps is a powerful combo.

upgrades: socket pedals, mirror, seat bag, new water bottle holder, but cannot understand how the integrated air pump is supposed to fit. very happy with these. especially, the pedals. the original pedals were not bad, but these are better. the pedals are stored in the main carrying bag side pocket. also, I was able to load the unload the bike without having to move any seat from its installed position. seat rotated down 2 degrees, seat post at maximum extension (zero bar) (my inseam =32), handlebar moved down to position 3.

I also have derailer protector that I did not install because if I do, I will need to move the passenger seat to load the bike.

this bike is designed like an airplane with weight reduction but the important parts, such as the center frame hinge is beefy. I like it. the 8-speed shift gearing is correct for me. tires have been fine for both road and gravel trail at 100 psi. I like the 20-inch tires and do not want 16-inch for any gravel trails or bumpy sidewalks. for me, 20-inch tires are a must have. the seat bag is waterproof and needs to be because there is no fender.

the only complaint is that the brakes are fair. on some long steep downgrades, I had some concerns. there are supposed to be some aftermarket upgraded brake pads, but I will contact Zizzo to get their input on what to do. there is no risk of being launched over the handlebars with normal braking.

so far, I think Zizzo hit a home run on this bike. it's a good all arounder, like the RV9. not perfect, but good at everything.

can't get enough of this...

air pump installed. I checked the seat post support sleeve. it's good for a no bag config. I'll update the design for the bag. must be getting close to holidays because the RVPlasiticParts orders are thru the roof. needed to get out of the print shoppe and to the hangar to see the bike. need to replace the seat with the same style, this one is from my old road bike. I will update the grips with GP1 and that should complete the mods. I verified I have the supplies to fix a flat and removed the wheels to verify in about a minute, clamp style wheels. the wheels run true. I like it!

Cincy-Dayton-Columbus has a lot of dedicated bike trails. I think I could almost ride a dedicated bike trail from Cincy to Cleveland. I like small towns, with a main street to ride because they have personality. I picked a couple targets with airports close by and pulled out my motorcycle winter gloves.

Tinlicker Sleepwalker (Extended Mix) I realized I can listen to this kind of music while flying and not be distracted by voice singing. works for me.

seat post sleeve. 11-degree is good for when a bag is installed. 14-degree for no bad config. the grip of the sleeve is just right but it does not allow the sleeve to rotate to flat, but that's OK. better to keep the sleeve installed and not fall off. better, but I want to make some changes. something more like a T shape, so angle is not a factor, but it needs to be strong enough and not a hard point. time to change the print material to UV resistant and clean up the print. getting there.

GP1 grips. short needed for the RHS and normal needed for the LHS. the pair included to shorts, so I need to buy another pair of regular so the LHS brake lever is in the same relative position as the RHS. the grips are really that good. similar to the wrist support for the throttle on my motorcycle. all installation instructions in German but they have good photos. :)

note: if you use the Zizzo socket pedals you gain another 5mm leg extension, (0.2 inch) compared to the stock pedals.... and that's what I needed. seat post is set to max extension. 32-inch inseam.

the Zizzo Liberte has the Microshift twist grip shifter, the Shimano Altus derailer and an 8-gear cassette, that all work well. stay away from the Tourney derailer.

cool 3D printed saddle.... not by me. bikes and airplanes have a lot in common: they both move, better if they are light weight, desire good handling and a comfortable ride, desire low cost, reliability, and a water bottle holder.... and really nice if you can fold them away for storage. :)

GP1 small grips work well on the Zizzo, BMW style. LHS grip installed. I have a complete set to fit the zizzo perfectly, just flip them over. I will make a good deal and you have a guaranteed fit. save a few bucks from having to buy two sets. let me know. I removed all reflectors to eliminate weight, I'm not riding at night. the zizzo mirror folds nicely with these grips, no interference. the test ride was very good. weather warming next week, ready to bust out! yes, it is possible to do a wheelie on these, just be careful, because the back tire is directly under the seat. new used seat arrived today from ebay, Milano. basically, I upgraded all the touch points on this bike, seat, grips, pedals. I'm planning for thousands of miles on this bike.

new saddle installed; bike mods are completed. new saddles are becoming expensive. I found this used on eBay. I think I could easily do 40 miles. this ride in the UP is on my list for next Summer. Airbnb cabin for less than $100 per night. take my fly rod. may need to print a fly rod mount for the bike or get a rack. for me, Google overestimates the bike travel time.
