I have a 9 with a similar horizontal stab so I'm interested in the RV10/14 SB-00043. I took a look at my 9 horizontal stab and couldn't find any signs of cracks at rivets at the trim tab or anywhere else. In fact, I don't have a single airframe rivet crack, but getting back to this RV10/14 SB and the use of corner glue. I believe the originator of this design intends to stiffen the skin by increasing the skin bearing area with corner glue. however, it may not work that way. the glue may stiffen the skin at the fwd side of the spar but by doing so will increase the skin bending at the aft side, thereby, increasing the skin stress and promoting increased cracking. however, the increased number of rivets at the trim tab should be beneficial to spread the load. the only real method to stiffen the skin cracked area is to reinforce it directly with an angled doubler of some kind on the aft side of the spar. it will be interesting to watch this one. kids will be kids until they understand.
are there any proven applications of corner glue used to prevent fatigue cracks around rivets?
