the kids are grown and doing fine. my wife could manage without me and perhaps be even happier. :) this is probably the best time in my life for me to fly as I am retired and less needed in the overall scope. the biggest risk is for younger persons since they still have their full lives in front of them. everybody should have a rational for what they do. is my flying really needed, nope. it is fun and does it take me to new places, yes. if I see that I am going to auger in, I'll make it hard, but I am not planning on it. I try to stay away from WingNuts, because there is no reason to raise the risks.

There have been several RV fatalities recently... Nonetheless, as an older individual, I have little to lose. It's important to enjoy flying while possible and to minimize risks as much as possible. After all, fate is the hunter.

Think about the rational to fly when you are older....

1. Most of your life has passed.
2. The kids are gone.
3. You have the time.
4. You are still in good shape.
5. In the whole scope of life, you are not really needed as much as when you were younger.
6. If you die, people will say a few words such as "he was doing what he liked", and they will move on.
7. Your wife may be happier if you die. :)
8. These could be the best days of your life, full of adventure. They are for me.
9. If you see that you are going auger in, make it hard so there are no medical bills! .... If you are younger, you have more to lose, try to stay alive.
10. The freedom to die opens a whole new world. The freedom to die is the ultimate freedom and that mental transformation can change your life. It makes the world seem full of possibilities. Nobody wants to die, but to be OK with it happening is liberating for a pilot of an experimental aircraft. I will think about this the next time I fire up the engine, and then I will smile and queue the music.
11. We are free to die, but we are not allowed to injure people on the ground.

On the timeline, I am here. It is good to see it on a graph. 20 percent remaining.
