What did you do this week? - 2023FW51

Installed the bigger cowl inlet air dams and flew to HOC to hunt for arrowhead artifacts and get some fresh air and exercise. a beautiful December day. I had not been to HOC in about 15 years but when I would fly over, I would see a repaved runway and tarmac. It is nice. they also upgraded the poor bathroom. It's heated and really nice, with a phone. I couldn't believe it. my wife would like this. I found some artifacts that were apparently started but then tossed for me to come flying in, listening to "Pump Up The Volume", and find them thousands of years later. :) Really a nice day walking the creek bed. Lots of squirrel and woodpecker.

Not much wind but the runway had some slope. I chose to takeoff with a tailwind, downhill, away from the Sun. I dropped 10 degree of flap for the takeoff.

ACOC still not tapped over. Oil temp = 160F. I pull all the moisture out after a flight.

this is what you get to do when you leave your gust locks on the wing while pondering which runway direction to takeoff and then taxi away.... :)

another trip on the Winter Solstice to retrieve the gust locks and walk the creek bed looking for artifacts. popped my cowl off and taped over my ACOC. that gave me an extra 20F and boosted the oil temp to 180F. removed my fuel vent bug blades. 18 hours on the oil.

the day before...
