Fasting - something new for me

so much has been said about the benefits of fasting, I thought I would give it a try as an auxiliary method for body health. I have pushed my weight down into the 170's and it is good. however, I am older now and retired and I don't carry as much muscle mass as when I was younger, so I think a weight in the 160's would be better for me. I have never used fasting as a body health tool except when I have had the flu and could not take any food and it was not voluntary. I have been using intermittent fasting as a tool to push my weight down with a 6-hour eating window per day and generally feel better and have improved energy levels. since I like to ride bicycles, reduced weight will also be beneficial because lighter is always better. on days that I ride a bike, I eat, because of the increased calories needed. I can burn 2000 calories on an all-day bike ride adventure.

so, here are my feelings on a simple 48 hr fast. hey, I am a novice at doing this and I know it's not much, but I am just getting started.

Day 1 - some hunger feelings. at 20 hrs without food I had a metallic taste in the mouth from the Ketone release that means my body has completely switched to burning fat reserves. I feel increased energy levels and a calm. I was able to completely repair a difficult vanity sink faucet/drain/shutoff valves with calm. Normally, I hate doing that kind of stuff.

Day 2 - no hunger feelings. a feeling of calm and clarity. energy levels are good.

Day 3 (tomorrow) - I will fly, ride the bike, burn some calories, and eat.

So much has been said about the benefits of fasting, so I decided to give it a try. This is Day 2 of my 3-day fast, and so far, I feel great—no hunger and plenty of energy. Day 3 will be uncharted territory for me, and I'm curious to see how my body reacts. It's a test. I've been practicing OMAD for about a month now. Yesterday was flying 6 hours with no food all day and I was fine. Today, I'll tackle changing out another bathroom faucet, drain, and valves.

Another benefit I have found is that I no longer have springtime allergies. It was so bad I needed a steroid shot to get me thru the springtime, but not this year. Not needed and no symptoms. I don't understand it, but I will take it.

hey, If Angus can go for a year without food, I should be able to go for 3 days....

chocolate cake is really good after 3 days of fasting. the fasting was very easy for me with no hunger cravings; I mowed the grass, replaced a bathroom faucet/drain/valves, trouble shot the aircraft Wi-Fi system, etc. no low energy effects. perhaps even more energy or at least the same. this was my first ever 3 day fast in my life and I was amazed at the available energy. I learned something. I thought I would be dragging around, nope. the next fast will be 4 days in about a month.

If you go down in an airplane in the wilderness. food is not a major concern. water and staying warm would be my top priorities. hey, the fat you carry on your body is good energy. it just needs to be released.

I reached my weight goal of 165, and now it’s below that, heading towards 158 lbs. (6 ft). I’m working on finding the optimum weight for maximum energy. Why not run your body at its best, like a fine-tuned machine? A lighter weight feels great in this hot weather. One-meal-a-day (OMAD) is a powerful tool for managing weight and staying healthier—it’s definitely working for me.

basically, you want to look like this airline pilot... :)

I try to water fast 2 or 3 days every month. My longest has been 110 hours. I'm actually 44 hours into a 72 hour fast right now. Been doing this for almost 6 years. I normally eat 2 meals (mostly carnivore) a day at noon and 6:00 pm. Looking forward to the 32oz prime rib at the Black Otter next week!

ah man, I am late to the party. this is the best thing I have found in a long time. you give me encouragement. my energy level was declining five months ago, but now it is back. I am planning a 4 day fast to understand what it is, always experimenting. eat up at Oshkosh, you have earned it and enjoy the show.

OMAD and bloodwork... My triglycerides dropped from 154 to 69, though my cholesterol stayed about the same, according to my recent physical. My doctor couldn't explain how OMAD resolved my seasonal allergy issues, but it did, which makes OMAD totally worth it for me. I believe OMAD somehow helps reduce overall inflammation in the body. One undeniable benefit I've noticed is smoother skin. Apparently, my doctor approved of my OMAD lifestyle because I received a STAR AWARD. :)

Basic Med complete. No extra charge. So easy!
