I caved...

Post by captain_john »

In the juxtaposed planes, the seat ribs, the backrest bulkhead and the baggage ribs are all riveted together as a stack. I was having trouble with these riveta and munged one hole up so badly I just couldn't set a good rivet in it even with a squeezer!. I drilled it out soooo many times, I was becoming dismayed.

In my frustration, I recalled having some cherrymax rivets on the shelf that I picked up off the floor at the FBO. I said, hmmmm... never used one of these before in my plane. Maybe now is the time?

It was an oversized #30 with the appropriate length! Waaaay too lucky! I inserted it into the hole and it looked like it would be just fine, so long as I made up a sheet metal washer to provide a nice, smooth bearing surface for the formed side.

Bottom line, I am going to grab a few more of these from the FBO in various sizes and types for these oddball occasions! It worked MARVELOUSLY and I feel all warm and fuzzy about it now! I know now that when I am inverted and hanging on my Hookers, I won't come apart at the seams!
