It sure looks like a nice bird. I would love to see something like a 200 - 210HP 4 seater. That would be awesome. I am sure they could really put a one up on the cardinal / arrow / sierra class of factory birds.

There is one, it's called an RV-10. If you recall, originally Van's had two engine options. Ok, 235hp is a little more than you were looking for. The problem was that everyone went with the 260hp option. One of Van's demonstrater RV-10s has the lower HP engine installed. I think it's the one that Mitch has on the east coast. To my knowledge, it's the only one.

Exactly. Vans never really supported it. I looked into that option and it was obvious that everything you did with that configuration would leave you in a lonely field by yourself. The only real viable option (viable defined as in getting support and not having to engineer the entire fwf yourself) with the RV-10 is to build a plane that starts with a $45K+ engine.

That is not in the same category as the 200HP 4 seat class.

honestly these days it's easier and cheaper to get 540s on the used market than it is 360s, in large part due to all those damn RV builders buying up all the 360s!

Plus, a set of jugs for a parallel valve 540 is ~$7k, whereas a set of jugs for a 200hp angle valve IO-360 is ~$9k.

I'm not so sure about that after shopping myself. I ended up buying new. People that part out Apaches know how competitve the market is these days due to all the RV-10s being buit. Most of the cheap engines you'll find are out of a helicopter, which wil require extensive rework (I actually worked with both Lycoming and Barrett on what it would cost) or out of an airboat (who needs an abused engine that's been near water and high humidity)

Now if you can get past the purchase price, the 260hp can be trottled back and operated in a more cost effective manor.
