is it too early to plan?
I don't really think it's possible and I hate to jinx myself about the possibility of going to OSH 2011, but the wheels are turning. SO I have a few Q's.
If flying in, is it best to
come early or ???
camp with your plane?
team up with others and maybe get a ground RV?
stay off site in comfy accommodations?
what about wife, will she be bored to death or ok with a few days?
I mean really, 1000nm is only 6hrs and 1 stop away. I can probably swing 4days (1 over, 2 days on the ground and 1 back).

Never too early to plan!
I would plan to arrive mid-morning, no matter what day you come in. Early morning is crazy busy, and a mid to late morning arrival is much easier, especially for your first time in. Trying to get in after the airshow is pushing your luck a bit to get in before the airport closes, and if you do get in, you'll be setting up in what's left of the daylight.
I used to camp in the North 40 when I flew my spam can Cherokee up there...been staying in Scholler for the last five of six years (one year in the dorm...just wasn't the same), and I LOVE staying in Scholler. That being said, IF I fly mine to the show this year, I will camp with the airplane in RV camping. We could plan a Rivetbangers camp spot with Jeff Point...
Can't say for sure about your wife...mine wouldn't last a day, especially camping. She did Sun N Fun with me once, she was a trooper for the day tho.

Where is the RV camping area? I took our 180 a couple years ago, and camped in the vintage camping area. It was an awesome location, just south of AS square.
The North 40 seems about like that, a bare field--not real appealing

There isn't an official RV camping area, but Jeff does a great job of parking like-airplanes next to each other. Homebuilt parking and camping is his thing, and he has it down. The "RV" camping area is just northwest of the tower, and west of the kit manufacturer's vendor area.

big Burt Rutan deal in 2011, so my buddy with the LongEZ wants to go 2 ship or more if we can gather some others.
Not sure how the camping thing would work for us, he can't carry much and probably wants to camp together. I'm self sufficient and wife might not come anyway. Still a long ways out to decide.

I can't remember--where is the new tower in comparison to the old one?

Just to the west of where the old tower was.

I think he'll want to park with all the other lawndarts.
But I don't plan on being to far from Aurora. I'll be sitting there with a cattle prod for deflecting children.

That and hail/wind are my two biggest fears of bringing mine up there...

OK, we had a airport christmas party and RV talk was front and center. The host (hard core Certified guy) came over and said "you guys need to settle down, I've heard enough RV" , he was joking of course... he hadn't heard enough
Anyway, 2 of us have committed to OSH 2011. Details to be worked out, but I've scheduled my Vacation days already.

Not certain yet. Probably come in early, either saturday 23rd or sunday 24th. then head home mid week. Depends on when the RB "Otter-fest" takes place.

our plans are coming together a bit.
Trying to get there Sunday mid morning and will be staying until friday at least. Kevin wants to be around for the Rutan tribute. This will all be weather dependant, of course.
Other friends of ours camp with their Bonanza near the Red Barn. He's been flying in every year since '82. He said we could camp by them, but I'm leaning toward HBC with a bunch of RBrs.
do we have Otter reservations yet

I'll definitely be there this year. I have to leave Thursday so I'll go to the BO if it's before then.
I'm for sure camping with my plane. I really enjoyed it the first time I did it. They parked me right at the end, nothing between me and the runway. I'll be arriving on Sunday around lunch time - if all goes well.

Count me in too!
I plan on biking out as of right now.
Need to nail down engine and stuff this summer so I can keep busy this winter!
I will be bringing a tent but if you have an extra spot in a house/RV/camper... count me in!
I will be solo.
Hmmmm... Otterfest!!! Yah...
I can do the big cut this year!

Brian, what route will you be taking? Will you go anywhere near FAR (Fargo, ND) or GFK (Grand Forks, ND)?
I am located between the two, at 6ND6 private.
I am gonna make it this year, no winter wheat to mess with!
