Old buzz box works on a 9-volt battery

Post by A2022 »

I purchased this old buzz box 10 years ago for $20 on eBay and limped it along with tape around the battery set, but it is now too far gone. luckily it works on a 9-volt battery. I haven't needed to time these mags for past 200 hours. but they need it now. they have both advanced 2 degrees, and I can determine that from the uniform CHT creep. at altitude I can run LOP and drop them to CHT 315F range with 2 degrees advanced. I'm OK with the creep on these mags, minimal effort for timing them.

I threw away one spark plug because the side electrodes were becoming thin. heat treated some of my old copper gaskets. when they turn black, they are done.
