Indeed, it appeared he was cruising smoothly when an event suddenly prompted the aircraft to descend. It's unfortunate to lose an aircraft in such a manner, but the pilot executed a commendable emergency landing.

The aircraft, an Experimental Syrus Devers RV-14A, Registration N144ND, sustained unreported but apparent minor damage subsequent to the forced landing to brush desert terrain east of Palmdale Regional Airport (PMD/KPMD), Palmdale, California. The sole pilot onboard the single engine Amateur Built airplane was not injured during the incident.
